Default Rebuilding on a budget

Well im about to rebuild my block and was wondering if i should raise the compression to 11.5:1 or raise it to 12:1 and have to spend aliitle extra on injectors and a fuel pump? I'm going to use my stock head since i'm on a budget so what i was wondering was if its worth it to go with the 12:1 and spend a little extra cash or just stick to the 11.5:1?

a list of your current mods and power goals would be really helpful...

Will you be using 91 or 93 octane?

How do you plan on raising the compression; pistons, headgasket, valves?

I was going to raise it with the pistons. my budgets is $1400.00. As for my mods all i have is an iceman short ram. jdm 4-1 header, complete msd set up distibuter and all, exedy stage 2 clutch, and a jasma exhaust. Don't think that it matters but it's in a 99 si.

Jasma exhaust, eh? Right. Anyway, JDM ITR pistons are your best bet. 12:1 with stock cams and all is kind of silly.

You'll also want to keep tuning in mind, as that would be a good idea as well.

"Budget" and "high compression" don't really belong together.

Whatever the JDM ITR pistons give you. That's a slight bump from stock, will feel good, and won't blow up on you.

I wish we had 93 octane in my area!

You can try to trade in your msd setup, and get soemthin that gives u some power in return, there is nothing wrong with the factory distributor as i believe its good up to 600whp or some figure like that. So you can spend that money somewhere else more wisely.

yeah iv'e been told this several of times i guess i'll do that. My motor is a 97 so stock compression was already 11:1 since its jdm. So then i should just stick with going to 11.5:1 then? I really wanted to go boost but im not going to have cash for that right now so. I'm just trying to get the most out of it and not come back out slower by lowering the compression for boost and waiting till i get cash to actually go boost.

if you're compression is already 11:1 just throw in some bigger cams.

but if im rebuilding it i really didn't want to rebuiild it back stock thats why i was considering the 11.5:1 or 12:1. My pistons are still good but my one of my rods is bad and i figured might as well replace them now that its out. As far as cams i plan on getting some skunk 2 stage 2's in a while but figured the ctr cams would do for now. I heard they are better then itr cams. But i also heard they were good for boost only.

Is the only problem a screwed up rod? If so, skip all this other nonsense, it's not worth the money for 0.5 point bump in CR. Just replace the rod and be done with it.

i spun two bearings and when we took it apart and took it to the machine shop they told me a rod was shot.

i already got another type r crank aswell, i just cant decide whether to build it back stock or if it would even be worth it to raise it from 11:1 to 12:1?
