stereo system shuts off when turned on too loud
anyone know what's wrong with my system?? i have a 99 lexus gs300. i added a 4 gauge wiring kit, a 2 channel audiobahn amp, and one fosgate dual voice coil woofer (4 ohm rating). i wired it to get a one ohm load to achieve max power out of my amp. the problem is, it shuts off when it's turned on loud, then i'll hear the next word/beat, and it shuts off again. cd's brand new, so it's not skipping. any ideas??
Sounds like your amp is going into protection mode. Are you sure your amp can hold a 1ohm load. If it can't then you are probably over driving your amp. You should check a couple of things. Make sure your amp can support 1 ohm. If it can, then maybe turn your gain down a bit.
I had this problem before on a long road trip. I had a lot of stuff in the trunk and it was a hot day. My amp overheated and went into protection. Basically it just shut down. I had to let it cool off before I could turn it back on. I ended up putting a rear seat down to allow more air flow.
Good Luck

i dont think it's going into protection mode cuz it doesnt shut down for long.. maybe a second, then it turns back on. and the amp can support the one ohm load, it says so in it's manual.
Loose the Audiobahn amp. The impedance seen by the amp is way too low and it's drawing WAY too much current during musical peaks. Buy a new mono amp which has stabliltity into lower impedances.

never had a problem with this speaker/amp combo before when the system was in my honda. now i switched it into my lexus and that's when the problems started. now, i noticed that when i shift from park to "D", it shuts off/turn on. or when i roll my window up or down, it turns off/turn on. when i apply my brakes, even slightly, it turns off/turn on. maybe its a short somewhere. it seems like everytime i use an electrical device in the car, it interferes with the radio. any ideas y??
Well from what I read it sounds like you are running this off of the factory radio in your Lexus. Witht he amp cutting off when turned up sounds like it's losing signal from the radio. At higher volumes most amps will need a higher voltage siganl from the radio. That sounds like your problem.

yes, i am running off the factory stereo. i bought an adaptor to make the it possible to run my amp without having to swtich to a new deck. my brother has a lexus also and doesnt have any problems with his system. i guess i'll go have a shop check this problem out, cuz i have no idea wat's going on. maybe i DO need a new deck. thanx for all your comments.
