Default b16 eg running like poop .... help

wassup fellas . i just bought a b16 eg . and the firs couple days that i drove it , it drove real nice and hard . then after a couple days , i decided to degrease and wash out the engine bay . I did wat exactly honda-tech recommended and i covered the dizzy and the intake , then sprayed simple green all over the engine bay , brushed it , and rinsed it off . started driving the car again and it drove great . then a couple days ago , i took a 2 hour road trip , drove fine and got to where i was going . that night , it rained . and the following day , i started driving back home and the car started to drive bad . at times , at low RPM , the car would sound and feel real throaty like a WRX , kinda sounds like its bogging , and sometimes when i floor it , it would kinda like clear it up and at vtec , drives fine . but since i got it back home , now it drives bad at all times . can anyone help me out and maybe help me figure this out ?

if it matters , the car never had an intake on it since the day i got it .

I had the same exact problem. I have a b16a in my eg. It kinda sounded like a WRX but it had no power at all. The problem was I was running on 3 cylinders. How? Injector 3 was bad and wasnt injecting any fuel. So what i would do is check ur injectors and see if any of them are bad. Then replace.

Sounds like a misfire. First check to see if water is in the spark plug holes. If not check and or replace spark plugs with NGKs! Good time to Replace Plugs, Cap n Rotor if it needs it. Maybe your Injectors are messing up. Did you get a CEL?

your dumb.

to get the water out i took a piece of small hose and put it on a vacuum cleaner and sucked all the water out...

having water in the holes can short out the wires. you may need new ones.

...I don't think that not having a "aftermarket intake" produces this problem....Check Injector,Spark Plugs and if anything take off all the spark plugs out the cylinder and get a air compressor and use compressed air to clear the head of any water//gas//moisture/etc. May not be inside the head but at least its one less thing on the list of what may be wrong.

thanks guys for being so patient and informative . i'll let the car sit for the meantime until i can get all the parts together to replace . also , any parts to recommend ? wat kind of plugs , caps , rotor , wire ? and i think the motor is a JDM b16 . i was trying to read the engine code and it says " B16A" . when i go to the auto parts store or honda dealer , what kind of car do i tell them i need parts for ?

and also , how can i check if the injectors are bad ?

When u go to Autozone or any autoparts store. U can ask for a 2000 Si parts. All im saying is that the problem with mince was the injetor. Easy and simple. But u can check anything else.

When I replaced my cap on my jdm b16 I ordered a em1 version thinking it would fit. When I went to replace it I found out that it didn't fit, the bottom bolt was off by 1/2 an inch. Take off your cap and rotor and bring it to your auto parts store so they can match them up. That way you only have to make one trip instead of three like I did.

umm yea alot of people dont know, is that your grounds are probably shot now, i would NEVER wash the engine bay like that. you could have problems nobody would ever know. Water in engine bay=bad, why? its an electrical rainforrest in there, so water+electronics= bad even if you did cover all the most important things. Mine did this, and it ended up being my 02 sensor wires getting wet and then corroding. Electricity+water=faster corrosioin.

check your wiring, im sure water in the plug hole isnt the problem, but i could be wrong

sounds like 3 things could be wrong:
1 you have a bad distributer
2 water in the spark plug cylinders
3 bad injector/s

Umm yeah, I spray my engine bay with a pressure washer and degreaser almost everytime I wash it. I just try to miss my intake filter and thats about it. Never had any problems, kinda sounds like your problem is an unrelated coincidence.
