HPDE Track Insurance - Racing Coverage Events Search Friendly
Does anyone here have HPDE Insurance, explicitly stated?
For an EG/EK with few modifications, many might not care, but for those S2000s, NSXs, new Civic Si, I'm sure quite a few of us want to know.
American Collectors no longer insure HPDE events.
LauralDE.com is not an insurance company that is licensed in the United States of America or Canada.

Good luck finding one. I've never been able to do so. And really, even though the fine print in my AAA insurance doesn't specifically rule out an HPDE, I'm more than willing to bet that they would find a way to decline converage anyway. Hell, they fought me tooth and nail for 6 months to avoid paying me back for my stock GSR blades that were stolen from the car in a theft attempt ($500 deductible, $500 in documented interior damage from their claims adjuster, they still refused to pay for the stock wheels because they were in the trunk at the time, even though I was only asking them to pay for Slipstreams to replace them and not full retail).

If your just doing a HPDE, call up your insurance company and ask them if you they insure your car during a driving school.

Then find a notice in the mail canceling your policy about a week later ;P
If you want insurance for the track... its called... build a car you can afford to write-off. Thats about it.

Bad idea. Don't call and ask, just read the policy. I'm sure most policies have it in writing by now that anything other than driving on the street is not covered. If you can't afford to lose it, don't track it.
See what happened when this guy asked his Ins. company about HPDE:

I'm going to disagree with both of you just on the fact i've talked to my stateFarm agent. I heard the same speech from the owner of that particular statefarm, and my personal rep lady. As long as the event is considered "driving school", my car is covered. Now this is all verbal BS, will they cover it who actually knows. You just have to read into the policy, and not be afraid to talk to the people.
And since splitime offered his car as a write off, i'll glady be the test pilot.

Yes I could do that, but what if someone has say an Acura NSX or a fairly new S2000 that is not just a 3K EG w/ a 5K swap. They didn't buy it for the purpose of being a track junkie, but would like to take it out for enjoyment once in awhile. Then what?
Like I said, my question is to see what everyone has (if anything).

I HPDE my 00 GSR. AAA policy doesn't have any wordage that I can find that would exclude HPDE coverage, but I fully expect them to deny any claim I could submit from on track damage. Thats what they have high paid lawyers sitting around for. So, I guess I'm covered until they tell me I'm not, then I'm out the value of the car - whatever I can salvage from the wreck + whatever I've already paid in insurance that won't cover me. Car is also a daily driver, so coverage is necessary for street.

I tracked my S2K when I had it. I did a few events (8-10+). My insurance policy does not have a statement in there for racing. I did not bother to even ask my agent. I kept an extra 10-12k for repairs. I only went on track knowing I could afford the repair bill. At one point I dipped into those funds to finish modding the car. What did I do then? No track events for 2-3 months until I had at least 10k in that fund.
Simply: You gotta pay to play!

Oh, I know exactly what's covered for me. Exactly nothing. Many policies in Mass are written very clearly and very specifically. If you're racing, you ain't covered. If you're HPDE school driving, you're not covered, if you're autocrossing, you're not covered, (ready for this) if you're TSD rallying or Fun rallying, I'm not covered. This all came after some wahoo in a modified 911 balled up his car at a HPDE. Claimed the total, was paid. Bought another Porsche, modified the hell out of it, balled it up again, claimed and was paid....then went back to the insurance company looking for money for all the modifications. Don't know what happened to him but I'm sure his lawyers worked over the language of the policy enough that now there's absolutely no doubt. That's why I've got a trailered track car.
I do see Lamborghinis, Ferraris, Nobles on the track. Almost always being overly babied and overly careful. So careful that I'm flying by them in my CRX.
READ your own policy. I've read mine. My street car stays on the street and track car on the track.
