ACCORD ENGINES WITH 200k+ miles???
im in the used car market and lookin at accords
i saw a 98 accord with 200k and a 93 with 225k. both cars are in pretty good condition and had alot of recent service done to them like radiators, brakes, etc. im more interested in the 91-93 accords, i believe those had the f22. how reliable is this motor? i had a 91 accord dx and i overheated it at 100k but im pretty sure thats just cause i drove it hard back then.
are there any specific things i should look at?? im trying to do the basics like hoses, leaks, oil, etc, but any model specific issues that could be looked at are welcome
i also realized that almost EVERY cb7 i have looked at has broken door handles, seems to be a common problem, but an easy fix??

I have more faith in the 5th gen 94-97 accords but the 4ths gens are probably as good or a close second. I'd say go with it if it's a good price and your willing to put time into the car.
Also in the 6th gen 98 accord there are a few problems. The main one is an auto tranny issue. They crap out on you pretty early so unless it's been worked on already, you're going to be driving a time bomb.

hmm..what would you guys recommend then
im looking at 2 1993 accord EX sedans, both are black with tan interior. one has 120k and is 3000$, the other has 220 and is 2k. both had alot of maintenance done, im looking at both tommorow and i will have a better idea. but saying that both are in excellent condition and running strong, which would you do. id be paying 1000 dollars for 100,000 miles basically

btw same person, different sns, this is mine the other is my brothers
i pretty sure im not going to buy the 98 with 200k, just because the dude said it was the original tranny, and that generation is known for problems even though its mostly v6...

yeah I mean it's worth it. I love my car and it has 175k. I think the car will be easier to maintain than others at 200k. It will never be as maintanance free as a new car, and that's to be expected.

93 accord, 220k black- 2000$
93 accord, 120k black- 3000$
i havent looked at either but im kinda leaning towards paying the extra grand and getting the lower mileage one

I will always go with the lowest mileage I can afford. Make sure you have at least $500 extra to do maintenance (spark plugs, filter stuff like that) and for anything unexpected. You will have a longer life out of the one with the lower mileage. I dont know if I would want to buy a car with 220k miles that I DID NOT put on it though. If I put the miles on it and I know I maintain my car, I am more comfortable than when someone else put on those miles.
Check this tread for a checklist I made when I was buying my car

my car has 221,123 miles on it right now and its a 92 accord LX with the stock f22a1 engine my engine is still holding up real good it pulls whenever i punch it and it hasnt given me any major problems besisdes your basic problems like water pumps
F22s take a beating, my friends got a 92 accord, barley changes the oil, dosnt take care of it at all, and its still going with like 220k on it
Now just figure if it was well taken care of.. it would last forever

Buy a Manual transmission you can't go wrong! My brothers accord has 321,000 on it and he only did 4 things: Rotors, Timing belt/ waterpump, Clutch, and CV's. runs and drives great. Mine has 120,00 on it and has only used rotors and I had the timing belt done as preventative maint.
I bought my '96 with 175,000 miles , one owner and it looked and ran like a 2000 with 75,000 miles. All depends on the cars history and owners care. Id also prob. stay away from the automatics as they usually have slippy trannys.
checked the 93 with 120k out....the craigslist post was bs...the car had bad paint, bad body, missing drivers side mirror, brakes squealed....he said he'd take 2400, i might offer him 2000 and see, im really not looking for a car that will take me on junkyard searches for parts
90-93 accord is a tank. i have 90 accord with 334k miles. manual/original trans, original motor. t-belts every 90K or 7 years, plugs, tune every 30k, car is awesome. rusty quarters in ohio weather though, only downfall. look for 93 special edition also. nice car.
