Intake HOSE to Valve cover question.
hey...just was looking around my engine bay. i just wanted to know if the small hose that comes out of the instake pipe and goes into the top left of the engine's valve cover is nessesary...ive seen people take that hose off and just put one of those cheap breathers on the top of the valve cover instead...
and also there is another hose that goes from the middle of the valve cover to the manifold..is that too nessesary?
Thanks! in advance to those who help me out with my question.

well it sucks oil vapors from the valve train area to help enrichen the fuel/air.
I can't think of any advantage to removing it.
I've seen those little filter stacks be soaked with oil and drip all over the side of the engine though.
The one in the middle is the PCV hose, again no real advantage to removing it. LOL
You could wind up with really good oil consumption if you plug it off though, nice blue smoke out the exhaust.

the line that hooks up to the valve cover to intake piping can be removed but not pluged up.
It acts as a intake to valve cover, but the pcv line is like a exhaust to the valve cover.
On mine i got a 5 inch long cooling line to the valve cover then at the end i got those "cheap" filter tucked on the side of the motor. I did it like that cause it looks taky with the filter on the valve cover, and it stops it being soaked in oil.
no real gains to tell the truth, eh a little more throttle response(nothing dragstic) and it keeps your after market intake system clean.

Those 2 hoses are your stock PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) system. It keep the pressure inside the crankcase from building up and causing resistance & poor performance.
The line from the intake provides fresh air (from the air filter) to the crankcase...it's like the intake for the PCV system. The hose in the middle is the actual PCV valve, basically a one-way valve and also the outlet for the PCV system. The line going from the PCV valve to the intake manifold provides vacuum to the valve cover (crankcase) to suck the pressure out. The downside is that it also ends up sucking out oil vapors along with the air and you get a mesy intake manifold and minimal oil burn. That's why people put catch cans there, to filter out the oil vapors.
That's how it works, but look at the diagram from the service manual of you have to.
