Upper Ball Joint Question...
I have a 1993 Accord EX and the upper ball joint boot has a hole in it, just wondering if it's possible to replace the boot without replacing the ball joint (especially since the ball joint is integral with the control arm)? THanks in advance!

You can buy the rubber boot, but not the ball joint itself. If you buy the rubber boot to replace the old one, remember to pack it in grease b4 you reinstall it.

OK say I buy the boot, how do you get the boot on without separating the ball joint? THanks!

Re: Upper Ball Joint Question... (briq4)/boot replacement
Found this post in the archives and i had to bring it up. NEEd to replace my upper ball joint boot i have the boot and the circle clip, my ? is can all this be done by hand, or do i need a special tool to install the circle clip. The car is a 1994 honda accord.
Also how necessary is the cotter pin cause at the moment i do not have one in my upper ball joint because the **** HEAD MECHANIC broke it in the stud.

You do need to get it loose from the upper knuckle arm;
Raise and support the car, remove the tire, remove the cotter pin back the nut off the ball joint stud,don't take it all the way off yet. Now grab up your handy dandy 2 pound hammer. wail away and smack right where the ball joint stud passes thru the knuckle part of the joint, quit swinging the hammer like a girl and hit it!! LOL
All of a sudden the joint will pop loose then you remove the nut that you left on in case you missed with the hammer. Remove and replace the boot, and reassemble.

Sounded good until you go to the hammer. what you should do is buy a ball joint seperator. For the top ball joint it will look like a fork. You slip that around the ball joint, then wail on the end of that with a solid metal hammer until it pops loose. Honda manual shows a special ball joint boot clip installer .. but basically it just looks like a cone.. and you slide the clip over that and into possition. Im pretty sure you wont need it tho, but might give you a little bit more of a hard time .. but youll get it..
