oppinion related(motor swap or boost, i know just look. lol)
ok im 16 almost 17, my dad says "oh u have no idea what u are doing and there is no way u can turbo ur stock car(d16y7 motor). though i have done like 6 effing months of research. and he says yeah ill let u do a motor swap(p.s. yes i am paying for whatever i get). but when he says motor swap he thinks brand new motor from honda that has 0miles on it.
anyways we have come to the conclusion of possibly a used motor. im thinkin LS swap and then build it from there(vtec head and like b16 tranny)? in the end boost it (prob when im in college). or should i disrespect my dads wishes and boost my car now, and be able to be faster??
oppinions appreciated. thanks in advanced and happy new years to all

if you and your father do this as bonding, i would NOT go agianst his wishes, but if its your project and hes just mouthin off on what he thinks is right, the *** it, do what you wanna do. boost the D
any engine can handle a little bit of boost.
fyi i think this would be best in the general discussions forum as its not so much car related and more about morals/family values/parent child relationships.
swap is a good choice but not if your going to swap in an LS. ls is a good motor if you already have one, but if your going to be swapping you might aswell atleast at minimum get a b16a.

Boosting the single cam will give you more power now and last if done right, but if you do the swap your gonna have less power now but much more power later on down the road which also will last you if done right.... they both have pros while they both also have cons, its your decision: power now or more power later ahhhhhhhhhh! decisions!

yeah i figured it would and i thought about it but its not like the whole oh my dad, disrespect deal its more of the car decision, and i figured i wouldnt get as much feedback in the general discusion forum.
yeah ive been wanting to boost the d for ever. my dad really doesnt know much at all about cars, let alone honda's. so he is like ur going to blow ur motor,or your going to kill yourself and he also think when i tell him a motor swap....that, that would mean a brand new motor.
in the end ill prob install a turbo when he is on one of his long trips
. the only part that i am affraid of is if he just takes my car away completely cause im still under 18.

have you explained to him that your only going to run 7 psi and be making 180hp max? he probably things your trying to make a ton of power. granted 180 is a lot but older folk dont know that

yeah and ive told him(atleast tried to) that i know what i need to do (ive told him in details, obviously i speak a different language to him when i say what i need and what i will be running) but hopefully i will try to do though it with him more and he will understand.
p.s. more of a TECH thing. ok a buddy i know is running an srt-4 with 425whp and has some experience with turbo's and what not. and he says that if i chip my ecu and use chips instead of a programmer that i will prob be risking my wiring harness getting fried?? is this true? thanks for the replys

does anybody know about that chipping/program deal, question?
lmao ok last night. i was at this party and got a we bit wasted. there was this girl there that i hooked up with a long time ago and i was drunk at the time. the girl who threw the party said, i need so and so cars to get out of my drive way go to this local church right. and so my car was one. i was to drunk to drive and i asked the girl that i hooked up with a long time ago to drive my car there, anyways she is new to driving stick and got her stick shift s10 like 3 months ago. when she was driving my car she was holding my rpm's at like 4-6k. i was like nnnnnnnnnooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooo. and i just talked to her this morning and i said "so your new to driving stick" and she said since August. i was like lol so your new to driving stick cause u were reving my car up last night between 4-6k rpm's last night. and she was like " your car sucks, you can ask anybody". i said ok. so then she gets agressive and says expletive you(this is all on aim)so i say ok lol. and she is like screw u we are done, i said done with what lol. she says bye. i say bye but i am laughing as i am seeing this.
i know this is more of a general discussion thing but i just thought it was funny. bad part is that i just got a job were she works. oh well lmao

if you use a chip that's not tuned for your exact setup on a dyno you risk blowing up the engine, not messing up the wire harness.

dont boost the d it isnt worth it youll be wasting your money. do the swap and build it up and boost the ls/vtec you will produce much more hp.

no but im only looking for 180ish to 200whp and i want some tq as well. with boost its cheaper, more fun, and more power than just a swap. now if i need more power in the future or my engine blows, i can just get another one for really cheap and if i want 300whp then ill just build the motor. It can also be very reliable depending on my tuner, and or the right parts. not to mention guys that do just do swaps and havent modded anything i will prob blow most of their cars out of the water.
