*update on my smelly car
well fellas...just an update here...i'm the guy with the accord in which 4 gallons of 87 octane gasoline was spilled in the trunk and then proceeded to seep up under the carpet up front and completely destroy the sound deadening material under the back seat...well...i cleaned it all up...and my car doesn't smell anymore...here's my secret in case this ever happens to anyone else...i first removed all the seats and trunk board thing and used a steam vacuum to deep clean all the cloth materials in the car...even in the trunk...then i let it dry by opening the trunk and front windows and lodging a fan in the trunk to help air flow through...the steam cleaner works wonders on my carpets and floor matts...and not just the smell but the clenliness too...after this i put in dryer sheets (or whatever they are called) in the car to help absorb the smell better...so this morning i open up the car and the smell of gasoline is completely gone...i am pretty amazed...just thought i would post this incase anyone else ever spills something smelly in their car...sorry for the long post

You took out all the seats huh? I've been thinking about doing that just to clean up 10 years of accumulated grime. I'm thinking this took you more than one afternoon?
Here it takes cars 1-2 days just for the carpet to dry. When I steam clean my carpets I have to have a no shoes policy for a week otherwise carpets just get way dirty. As for the seats thing it really shouldnt take too long. Removing seats should take no more than an hour your first time and after that it becomes a peice of cake.
yeah the seat removal was the biggest pain...(although it wasn't a pain at all)...my biggest problem was getting those two clips out of the holes in the back seat...but that took a whole five minutes...and i had the steam cleaner before this incident...they are well worth it...
Are you talking about the clips that hold the front bottom of the seat down or the clips that hold the carpet on the back of the seat in the trunk area. I have found if you have a set of wire crimpers that look like this:
if you put them around the clip under the flat area and pull up they make removal a sinch.

good job man. im the kind of person who likes the smell of gasoline and engine oil but too much can just suck.(yes im weird)
Blahhhh
wow the accords must be totally different then it only took me about 15-30 minutes to remove the whole rear seats (back and bottom cushons) in my civic.
