Default Results from my comp. test as well as reaching a new era

Well, yesterday I got the minor ignition problem under control and my father and I went for a little cruise to grab some dinner. during our cruise, the R rolled 140,000 miles.. whoohoo!

anyways, this morning, i went ahead and did a compression test. Did it a couple times just to make sure and came up with the following. Yes, its a little low, regardless I was hoping for consistency, but didn't really get it. Here are the results:

190 - 140 - 140 - 200

I don't have a leakdown tester, but I feel that this is essential that I perform one. I had plans of doing a mild build this winter in hopes of it being ready for expo, but I'll have to see. Marc compiled a head package for me, which is very tempting. Since I am a full time student, I located a shop 7 miles from school which I am going to visit in a couple weeks and see what I can do.

the shop's site is here: http://www.stewartengines.com/

any suggestions or leads I am open to. was considering a mild head package with good tune, or a complete OEM head. I just hope whatever I choose I can be ready for expo

yeah those numbers arent the best. Did you complete the compression test with the engine warm? Did you happen to try the oil in the cylinder test? Did you check the valve lash? Do you burn a lot of oil? Does the car drive like crap and get poor gas mileage? If so I would definitely look into getting a leak down. 2 and 3 look pretty beat. It may just be the valves and might not be anything major. The leakdown should help you determine that.

I would determine exactly what the problem is before figuring out what route you want to take on the rebuild. You may simple need a valve job and some seals.

after researching a little more, this looks like it could potentially be a head gasket issue. hopefully i'll have a leakdown tomorrow

Ryan, what's the "Oil in the cylinder test", and "Valve lash test"?

I'm about to perform a compression test on my R, looking for some other tests to do while I'm at it. It's been feeling weird lately, and I'm finding a lot of black **** on the back of my car.

looked into valve lash a little bit. this is off the crane cams site. annoying to read with the question marks everywhere, but gives you an idea.

you say the car feels weird, why not a sixth gear?

dont quote me on this, but supposedly when doing a comp test, if you have shitty results, you can put a cap full of oil in the cyl and redo the test. if the numbers get better or back to normal, I think that means its a ring problem. might want to do some research on that to confirm.

valve lash test just means adjust your valves and redo the test.

this is unreal, i CANNOT locate a leakdown tester anywhere around here. I've been on the phone all day to every place imaginable.

anyone know a rough estimate of how much it would cost if i run the car to Honda?

is there maybe another name for the actual tester itself?
