anyone have a HID plug and play kit in their car? just wondering if you are happy with it and is it worth it.

i like mine but other people on this board will disagree with me and tell you to go the retrofit route

 

i was thinking about the xenon hid plug and play kit.

 

very happy with it, and i can even take off my glasses, haha. but other drivers may show you their high beam when u r on the road. so, never put in a high beam HID

 

if ur car is a 94-97 accord with reflector headlight, u will make many people pissed off. cuz no one would like to drive in front of me......

 

when you say reflector headlights...are the OEM ones reflector?

 

It also depends on whether you retrofit or not. The Phillips plug and play kit is pretty good.

the OEM is reflector lights. u just buy the HID which is the same size as ur OEM globes. if u want ur car to look better, u can try the projector headlights, they look much better than reflector lights and most of them require H1 globes for both LO/HI beam.

 

the xenon kit is 155 shipped and the phillips is 255 shipped. is the phillips ones worth the extra $100? i was thinking of going with just the xenon for money issues but can save up for the phillips if its substantially better.

 

You need to use D2R bulbs.
I do it. Projector is still better.

They're exactly the same. If you didn't know that i'd suggest learning a lot before spending (wasting) your money. I'd join HIDplanet.com. They have forums that have a lot of FAQs and spots specifically for retrofits or kits.

I have tried a LOT of different lighting types and the HID kit was not worth it. I spent over 200 on the kit and all I did was get an assload of glare. It didn't really make too much of a difference to me, and aiming the headlight down negates the purpose of better lighting because it doesn't spread as far. You basically put more light in the housing than it can handle. My mom has a 2nd gen TL with an HID reflector, if you look, the reflector does not light up on the bottom, which is reversed, meaning there is a cutoff of sorts. On halogen headlights wiht a kit, this is not there.

I honestly have gotten 5 different types of halogen and 1 hid kit and say either retrofit or just upgrade your bulbs to Night Hawks or something. Unless you just want it for the color, which is ridculous.

Yea pretty much. It's hard to explain, but if you look at a headlight, you see the light is spread in most every direction. The mirror finish, when given more light than normal, continues to disperse that light in random fashion...which is glare. Modern lights are designed wiht a particular lumen range and higher light output changes the performance of those headlights.

 

what kit are you using in your car sushii and how long has it lasted for you?

 

I've got a kit on my Accord. Never had any problems. Don't have a retrofit either, although seriously thinking about it with my tax return. But anyways, I have my headlights aimed at the same level I had them with my halogens and can count on only one hand how many times people have flashed me. They're bright, yes, but the glare on mine is not THAT bad.
