Default upgrading exhaust from stock

My buddy's uncle owns a shop where they can do custom fabs and I was wondering on what kind of setup I should go for. First off, this will be my DD and Im going to have to stay within the California emmisions. I doubt I'll be going for a B series engine...so IM stickin D.

My ideas are 2.25" piping and of course including the cat, muffler, and will I need a resonator? See, I don't know too much about all this ( im a learning noob), and I want to ensure that I get the sound I like, which is not the ricey-raspy can full of bees sound. but rather the nice quiet, DEEP tone sound. I wont know until its installed, so what brand names may I choose to acheive this sound? What kind of setups you Cali guys using? Im trying to stay under $300 as much as possible. So from the header down, what should my setup look like?

pictures would be nice also. thanks a mil

Yes you will need a resonator. Persoanlly since your going for a "stockish" setup I would just put the biggest one you can fit behind the cat. Wont hurt.

18" resonator with a dynomax turbo muffler is pretty deep...at 700rpm idle it sounds like 40hz coming from a subwoofer..really bassy

you mean 100% stock exhaust,,then weld on the dynomax muffler where the oem muffler went? doing that would be pointless, the stock exhaust tubing is ~ 1.5"

...i thought you wanted 2.25"?

oh wow I didnt realize how tiny the tubing actually is. Well, I've searched on the Dynomax's but which one should I get? Theres many kinds of them and also what kind of resonator. Im looking to be brand specific, so I don't just get any ol generic ones.

yeah the tubing is tiny..you'll hear alot of people say its like 2" but that's the outer diameter,,the inner diameter is tiny, thats why we call it a little pea shooter..

but the muffler i was talking about was the dynomax "super turbo" muffler.

and the resonator i use is from dynomax("Dynomax Race Bullet Mufflers") as well,,its really a muffler but you can use it like a resonator. they offer the 16",21" and 23"
