custom exhaust sounds like crap...sounds like a frickin go-ped
Setup: GSR swap, stock headers, high flow cat, 2.25in pipe, magnaflow pos muffler. I've heard other cars with similar setups that sound nice but mine sounds crap and it does these funky little backfires on downshifts (little pops). I don't know if it's cause I had them leave out the resonator, if the muffler is just crap, if 2.25 is really just too damn big and it just needs some backpressure.
I dunno what's going on but to put it in perspective, the stock exhaust was more deep and throaty than what I've got going on right now. Suggestions please.......I really hate the cars that sound like mine does right now.

you really think that's all it needs to get rid of the crappy/tinny/pingy sound?

Yeah. Generally, when you run larger piping and no exhaust resonator, the exhaust tone sounds like crap. An exhaust resonator will help deepen the sound and make it throatier.

I have the same noise when I let off the throttle. I am running a similar set-up:
-GSR motor
-OEM headers / down pipe / catalytic converter
-2.5" piping to an Arospeed axle back
But, others say my exhaust sound sweeeeeeeet!
I've heard it one time when my brother drove the car at the track and I must admit it sounds purdy
PS <> Are the little pops bad for the motor?

I had the same sounding exhaust 2.25 inch piping no cat, obx muffler( I live in canada) on my d16, it sounded like ****, I put a resonator on and it sounded awesome plus I got some low end back, after my b16 swap it got loud again and I just had another reso put on and it sounds awesome again...

The little pops are just unspent gas "popping" out of the motor. Not bad at all, I actually like the sound of mine I believe all cars do it, just when you get an exhaust you can hear it much better.
