ignition key programming
I have a 01 cl in which i had the battery un hooked for 1 week or so and now the car wont start.the dealer said that theres a chip in the key that have to be reprogrammed.i don't think this is so,because i can still open the door locks and trunk with the remotes. Can this be true, and is there a way to reprogram the key without going to the dealer?
The remote still works because it's just a radio frequency transmitter. The ignition will not work on the car because the ECU has "forgotten" the ID of the transponder inside the key so it (the car) has to be reprogrammed.
I think you can technically get a key programmed at the dealer using your car's VIN but they may ask for proof of ownership (for theft prevention reasons) so it may be wise to just take the car down there.

might be cheaper for them just to program your existing keys.
