Check Engine Code 14 - Idle Air Control Valve?
'96 Civic DX, now with 190k miles...replaced throttle cable earlier this week when car kept accelerating on the freeway (even after you let your foot off the gas...), car was also idling very high (because throttle plate wasn't returning all the way to zero). Cable was frayed inside the firewall, and replacing it solved all the problems above.
Now, however, the check engine light has come on, and it's giving Code 14 - that translates to "Idle Air Control Valve". Car was also "surging" a little bit.
What's the correct procedure to fix this issue?
Thank you in advance (bowing low for effect) -

first of all, searching using the RED button up in the right hand corner can answer many of your questions. Don't forget to click on the archives also if you don't find anything in the recent stuff.
You said it is surging right? All the time or only after the car warms up?
Take off the IACV and clean the screen real good. Put it back on and follow the helms procedure and see if that solves your problem.
Just a fyi...if you do a search, you'll find a thread I posted quite a bit in about my IACV problem and how I cannot figure it out......

first check to see if the connector has come undone...if it is securely plugged in, disconnect the battery or remove the hazard fuse..now remove the iacv from the back of the IM...its held on by two 12mm bolts...check the screens inside....they are probably clogged...if they are remove the gasket and give it a quick blast of carb cleaner and blow it out with compressed air if available...once its clean put the gasket back on and then put the iacv back on the manifold and plug in the connector...now reconnect the battery and start the car up....f the code is still there you need to check for continuity at the iacv as well as at the ecu
