Clean title here, too.

Out of 3850.. taking into account theft and accidents, with the newest ones approaching 6 years old.. I'd say maybe 2600 or so. Stories of theft and pictures of crumpled cars and stripped shells are vivid when thinking about the topic, but in reality there are more that are still alright that we don't account for.
Various people here watch the salvage yard sites and auction sites, that we see threads about shells and theft recoveries.

But not all theft are not considered salvaged or theft recoveries. Mine is still stamped as clean title.

I'm talking about the thefts that are; salvage title due to missing drivetrain, and/or completely stripped interior, etc.

andyt did a great job in determining how many ITRs were sold in the US, but the information in that thread is pertaining to the last known location for the 3835 (15 he could not locate) ITRs he could find via CarFax, regardless of the condition of their title. That's also great work on his part, because it gives us ITR geeks the best info we have of "where are they now?", at least as of the time of that thread.

You shouldn't be. It's sandwiched b/w Philly and NYC and EVERYBODY lives there. Look at the numbers of Penn and NY and you'll realise this is a highly concentrated R area.

There are still hundreds up for sale every day... So they can't be that rare yet, haha.
When I start seeing one or two for sale a month, that's when I'll start making mine a garage *****... But until then, I drive the Hell out of her.

Thanks Ken, I did miss that thread.
andyt is the man
So basically, as of 8 months ago, roughly 26% of USDM ITRs had other than clean titles.
At least it's not quite as bad as it seems sometimes.
edit: math is not my friend today

Not doubting that number, it just seems like so many more have been stolen/wrecked.

It's even better than that, if you divide 2832 by 3850 and find that the correct answer is 74 percent, not 62 percent.

It may seem that way, but there are reasons why the perception is greater than the reality. Every time someone posts something here about a car being stolen or wrecked, some people may get the feeling that this is happening to ALL the cars - but this is not necessarily true. For one thing, some of those posts are about cars other than the ITR (people post here when GS-R's and other cars are stolen). For another thing, sometimes a car is stolen but then recovered, or has an accident that doesn't total the car and then gets fixed. For another thing, you're looking at what the statisticians call anecdotal data - meaning that when you are hearing individual reports, you are not compiling any kind of structured, rigorous analysis; you are only hearing things, and you are only hearing the BAD things. The number of times people post on this board that their cars were NOT totalled and that their cars were NOT stolen is approximately zero. So you get a distorted view of what is happening out there. It's like hearing about a few airline crashes and concluding that there must not be any commercial airplanes left - when the fact is, you hear about EVERY crash, and the number of crashes is just a tiny fraction of the number of airplanes out there.
I have never heard anyone provide any concrete numbers or analysis as to why those numbers are wrong, only guesses. And the fact remains, there are many, many ITRs out there that have never been totalled or stolen. Approximately 74 percent of them, according to Carfax. (And even if Carfax is occasionally wrong, I doubt that the percentage is drastically different from that.) That's actually not that bad for cars that have been around for 6-9 years.
