Default what's inside cold air intake?

what's inside cold air intake, that makes it so special as far as i see it's just a piece of tubing w/filter at end, is there a way to make 1 for cheaper then most (cai), what i mean by that is by using your short ram and putting what evers in there, in your tubing or short ram..

theres nothing inside a cai that makes it better it the placement of the filter. A short ram stays in the engine bay, and a cai puts the filter down by the tire. Now days u can pick up a cheap one of ebay if u dont want to spend much

yea wth. cold air just means it's air coming from the wheel well instead of the warmer air that's inside your engine bay.

you put ice in the pipe. hence the cold air part.

Engine produces heat.

Cold air is denser (which is more oxygenated, which is better for your motor in both performance as well as gas mileage).

A cold air intake does exactly that, it puts the intake as far away from the engine as possible, so the air is cooler, other than the filter at the end it's just piping. Piping with a nipple for a valve breather and possibly a MAF sensor depending on what it's going on.

i have an AEM cai and i love it. but it is a little pricy when ebay ones do the same thing. as far as the rain goes, i have the second pipe taken off during the winter.
