I need help! Daily driver clutch for T3 B18C1
Hi,
I have an '00 hatch with a b18c1.
I blew the stock clutch at the track and replaced it with a clutch from ekjay on the board.
Everyone swore up and down that the sprung 6-puck with the 1700lb pp was totally daily driveable and would hold 350ft/lbs of torque.
So I bought it with a 12lb flywheel and have run it for about 1500 miles now. I HATE IT. First off, let me say that I'm ASE certified and have been doing swaps and such for over 10 years, there were no mistakes on the install.
You just can't get out of first without it chattering, unless you're spinning tires. It takes serious gas, and quick release of the pedal for it not to shudder the whole car.
I was aware that puck-clutches were like this, so I did my research, IM'd those who had bought it, and they all said, "No, it's sprung... it's not that bad.. grips hard though." Everyone defending their purchase instead of being brutally honest.
Anyway, does anyone out there know of a clutch that has a FULL FACE SPRUNG DISC, that can handle a small turbo torque on a b18c1? My plans are to run a T3 or GT28RS at about 12psi to make ~275whp, 260wtq.
Everyone I've talked to said clutches like the Exedy Stage 2 engage like stock but only hold 240wtq or so... any suggestions?
This is my daily driver, and the city driving SUCKS with the puck clutch.
I have a Spec Stage 2 in my MR2 that drives just like stock (smooth engagement out of 1st at low rpm) and holds 300 ft/lbs easy. I just can't seem to find a clutch like this for the Honda... any suggestsions appreciated.

Competition Cluch Stage 4 Srpung, all that you need. I semi-daily drive mine, it's not bad at all.
Full-face, maybe the Stage 3, but I say give the Stage 4 a try, what clutch is on the car now?

I have a TC Clutch (from ekjay on the board) that's 6-puck, sprung with a 1700lb pp.
The pp is fine.. .pedal is super easy to press in, perfect for daily driving.
It's the disc that sucks.. the 6-puck shudders the car when I try to engage it from a stop in first without revving it to death or spinning the tires.
Do you have a link for the competition clutch?

Is the extreme pp the 2600lb one? I had an ACT 2600 in my DSM about 8 years ago, and that pedal definitely engaged like stock, but was stiff as hell.
My leg got used to it and it wasn't a big deal daily driving it, however that rare occasion I got stuck in gridlocked rushhour for 30 minutes, my leg friggen KILLED..

I Daily drove my coupe with the ACT Maxx extreme(good for 487ft-lbs) It honestly doesn't bother me at all. It's a little stiff, but Coming from my Evo, with stock clutch, this honestly isn't bad at all. rarely ever get any clutch chatter and I've sat in traffic for over an hour before and not got to aggervated with it. Pretty happy with my ACT clutch. Obviously you don't need the Maxx Extreme. So, anything under it should be good for you.
DId a little research for ya. The ACT AI4-XTSS holds 319 ft/lbs. This is a sprung hub with there Extreme PP.. The next step up would be the the AI4-XTR4 or 6 puck(unsprung) with the Xtreme PP. They're good for 408 ft/lbs. Hope this helps some.. Merry Christmas

I ran a centerforce dual friction setup for 5-6yrs, finally turbo d the car made 500hp mid 300torque and clutch lived thru the entire dyno, (about 25 passes that day), and still made thru rest of season (about 15-20 passes)
so i was highly impressed, but then again i switchd to twin disc becuase i dont drive on street anymore, but if i did i would buy the dual friction again (i switchd becuase i knew clutch replacement was coming, pulled out, and still had material left, but was close to dying)

That website sucks to navigate. I like how ACT's website lists torque capacity. I'm not opposed to buying another brand clutch, but it would help if their info was organized with easily identifiable data.
Which clutch suits my application? I couldn't find torque specs on the site...

Tilton Engineering offers the Organic Disc for a more streetable use but does the job like a hardcore clutch setup.
You either have an option of:
Tilton Single Disc, Organic
Tilton Single Disc, Cerametallic
Tilton Twin Disc, Cerametallic
Tilton Twin Disc, Hybrid(Cerametallic/Organic)

if you want a full face disc and for it not the chatter... then i suggest you look into clutchnet.
maybe get a full face/solid hub kevlar disc with a pp that has a very high clamp load.
^you can even get one in a sprung hub if you want...
all depends on what you want...

I guess you get what you pay for
All the decent 2100lb pp with full faced disk clutches are $425-$600.
I paid $500 shipped for my TC 6-puck and that included the 12lb flywheel... then again, the clutch sucks for daily driving
Guess I'm gonna wait until I throw the motor in my MR2 and get it running again... then I'll take the EK to the track and beat the **** outta this clutch before I buy an ACT.
I think I'm going to go with the HDSS... it says it's only good for 243lb/ft, but I'll only be making a few more wtq than that. Others have said it's held 300 and drives almost like stock. Too bad it's $500
