LS and GSR Transmission Help?
I want some long gears but some good short 1-3 gears and long 4-5 gears for a monster all-motor setup. Just wondering is a 94-01 USDM LS tranny just as strong internally as a 94-01 USDM gsr tranny. I heard they break easily, however, this is a myth, I want to know the truth. Also they both have the same part number (S80), do they us the same parts inside and are gears, mainshaft, and countershaft interchangable? I know they have different gear ratios, but is the casing, mainshaft, and countershaft the same. Also, can drop a Integra Type R LSD in any of them?
Just need to know because I want make a ultimate tranny for street, short 1-3, and long last gears. Thinking about puting two trannys together to make a hybid if possible. Any response is good.

General guidelines:
1.) To use an ITR LSD, you need a 4.400 or 4.785 ring gear.
2.) If you use a 4.785 ring gear, then you also need a corresponding 4.785 countershaft.
3.) If you use a 4.400 ring gear, then you also need a corresponding 4.400 countershaft.
4.) If you change gears on the mainshaft, then you have to have a corresponding gear on the countershaft (and vice versa).
Example: GS-R S80 and you want ITR 3rd and 4th gear ratios; you have to buy ITR 3rd and 4th mainshaft and countershaft gears.
5.) If you change 2nd gear on the countershaft, then you need a corresponding mainshaft because the 2nd gear pinion is built into the mainshaft.
6.) Gear Speed (at this time) only sells carbon-coated synchros for the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and reverse gears.
7.) S80 GS-R and ITR, and S4C transmissions have dual cone synchros on 2nd gear ONLY.
8.) The Y80 (LS) transmissions have smaller diameter synchro rings than S80/S4C GS-R and ITR transmissions for 3rd, 4th, and 5th gear. I'm not 100% sure of this because I can't remember exactly what my comparison synchros were....I think they came from my S80 GS-R transmission. I can say that the LS 3-4 synchro rings are the same diameter as the 5th-Reverse synchro rings for all B-series transmissions.
9.) All of the bearings are the same, except for the differential bearings for a couple of transmission/differentials. B16 S4C's and Y80 LS's use different bearings than an ITR or GS-R differential.
10.) The reverse synchro is taller in some(?) transmissions. You cannot swap a reverse synchro into place of a LS 3rd, 4th, or 5th gear synchro.

unless your going to be racing on a role on the streets you dont need those tranys.all you need is a b16 or a 96/97 typ-r .all motors dont like long gears, they like to be hiped up in other words they need to be reved up to make power throu the gears.i got a rex all motor and tried a ls with 4.40 and was pasing the 1/4 mile in 3rd and shifting 4th to stop. got a rare cable gsr trany and pasing 1/4 mile in 4th and still pulling strong...sow do some research and do the right choice..good luck.

A B16 tranny would probably be your best bet.
You can put an ITR LSD in either. Its a straight drop in for the GSR, but for the LS you need an ITR/GSR ring gear.
