1993 alternator change
most of the time those alts quit putting out the problem is worn out brushes. they are pretty cheap and easy to replace.
There is a 14 mm bolt at the top of the Alt at the swivel point, then a 12mm at the bottom. next there is a 10mm threaded long bolt on the front that pulls up the lower bracket to tension the belt.
take note of the way the tensioner bracket is aligned when you remove it all.

Thanks for the pics. They made it much easier to find the parts.
so the entire tensioner bracket needs to be removed with the alt?
Also, I am guessing I should just replace the brushes and not the whole alt, correct?

It is really worth the little time it takes to at least check the brushes. all you need to do is remove the shield on the back of the alt. and then you can see the brush pak held in with 2 phillips screws. If the brushes are worn down to where the little 'circle logo' is they are shot.
No the tensioner bracket doesn't come off, just the long screw and the 12 mm nut, then slide the special bolt out towards the trans.

yes and an 8mm to remove the shield on the back of the ALT; good phillips screwdriver for the brush pak screws.

On my parts guy's computer, it lists 4 or 5 brushes that are available to replace on these alternators. Which ones are commonly the ones that go bad? Or do you replace all 4-5 at the same time? I have a spare Denso (with around 165k) I'd like to R&R whose bearings are quiet, voltage regular is good but throws inconsistent voltage (i guess from worn down brushes)
