what speakers and deck are best?
i'm new here,
i have a clarion deck with 6.5 2 way clarion speakers in front, pioneer 6x9 3 ways in back, i just soldered the connetions and the sound doesnt sound like its super perfect. i dont expect it to sound like a bose system in my friends BMW, but i just want decent sound. what brand of deck/speaker combo is nice? my friends told me to get pioneer deck and speakers all around since he has good experience with pioneer
its a 93 civic coupe
thanks

Best is going to cost you more than 10 grand for a moderate sized system.
Give us an idea what your budget is, and what all you're looking for (just deck & 4? 4ch amp? sub? etc?) and we can go from there

im looking for a good deck and speaker combo, no amps or subs. i like clearity of music when i drive, so i guess 500 dollar budget would work. i will look at pioneer decks and speakers next week

First did you make sure you had the speakers in phase before you soldered the speaker leads? Also are the speakers properly bolted down? I would check this first. And see how it sounds. If you want more you can allways upgrade

Ok, that helps a lot
Here's what I would recommend -
Kenwood cd player - KDCMP5032 ~ $200
Diamond Audio 6" coaxials - D362I ~ $140
Diamond Audio 6x9's - D392I ~ $180
Dynamat Door Kit ~$20
That does put you a little over you budget, but is all very high quality gear and if you talk to the salesman the right way you could probably do it for $500
I recommend that deck because it sounds good and gives you front, rear, & sub outputs (all with their own crossovers) that will give expandability in the future should you ever decide that you want more out of your system. It might be a little rough finding a diamond audio dealer, but it is definitely worth your time to do so. If I put you out of your budget a little bit I would reccomend the alpine type S coaxials instead (model #'s SPS17C2 & SPS69C3) that will run you a bit less, just won't sound quite is good
Oh and even 20$ worth of dynamat makes a substantial difference

If you want clarity on a budget Infinity is the way to go
You dont have to spend alot to have a nice sound system
If you want a nice deck you gotta at least spend 300
You cant go wrong with either an Alpine or Pioneer Deck
But thats all I would get from them
You dont have to match brands with speakers & decks (common mistake noobs make)
There are way better companies when it comes to speakers than those 2

I've got about $5k in mine. Since you know DA, I'm sure you'll appreciate (although this is not in the Honda):
Head Unit: Eclipse CD8445 (no, I don’t care about DVD)
Front Speakers: Diamond Audio S600s HEX Components
Rear Fill Speakers: Diamond Audio D361 Components (Connected via RAF on front crossover)
Front Amp: Diamond Audio D6600.4 (300w x 2 @ 4 Ohm)
Sub Amp: Diamond Audio D61000.1
Single 12” Sub: Diamond Audio D912D2
Wiring: Street Wires ZN650 (for both main signals and sub)
Cap: Street Wires PSC201
0 Gauge from Battery to Distribution – broken down to 4 Gauge to Amps
Replaced all speaker wire with Street Wires (don’t remember model – best avail)
Dynamat Extreme throughout trunk, rear qtr panels and roof. Still applying where needed

Sounds like something someone from my work sold you lol. Very nice choice in gear, it's almost exact what I would choose if I had that much cash to throw at my system; but then again, I'd rather have mcintosh amps
Personally I think the Hex's are a bright in a two way setup (Had a set in my sol for a while) so I would do a 3 way instead of the two way. Apart from that I'd just do the D61500 instead (wired to 1ohm of course) because that sub is ridiculously power hungry (as I'm sure you're well aware). The only problem therein is that the factory honda alternator is only good (imo) for about 800 rms, but then again, you don't have a honda

Thanks. I had DA M6 thoughout my last car, but lost it all in an accident. I decided to go with the upper end on this project. I was looking at the D7 amp for the mains, but I wanted to keep a consistant look and the specs really were not at a noticable difference. The D912 is actually rated at 800 rms, so running 1000 rms in the Diamond designed ported enclosure is plenty for me. I only keep the sub at 40% anyway. I'm all about the balanced sound. I also wanted the D9 components, but fitting to maintain stock look wasn't possible.
I did look at the McIntosh amps, but the cost at the one shop that stocks them here was beyond insane. I hate when shops pull that crap. Even DA has dropped down to one or two dealers around here. Another one I like is Alumapro. Only one shop deals that and again, overpriced. (I've never trusted online shopping with stereo equipment).
I'm still going to upgrade the battery and I'm looking for a high output alternator. The problem is that it's in my CLK, so finding (reliable) aftermarket parts is pretty tough.
In the CRX, I've just a Sony HU, Eclipse coaxial, Infinity Amp with an MB Quart 12". Nothing special... just enough to drown out the road noise.

I think Alpine head units are the best thats all I had in my cars and they are the best overall to me from what ive heard from other head units brands from my friend's cars. If your going with speakers stick with one brand dont mix cause you will feel the difference and buy a amp for your speakers then youll hear the best of your speakers.

I hope you mean just stick with the same brand for you speakers alone
