Default Paint/Bodyshop Costs

I'm looking to get my hatch painted and I'm wondering how much you guys have spent on repainting your hatches and crx's. Did you have to do any body work to clean the car up? I'm having my black STD bumpers painted to match the car

You're almost always going to have some minor body work, whether or not its noticable immediately if you want it to look good there is probably the odd dent here or there to correct. Maybe straighten out bumpers and that sorta jazz too.

In any case, I can't give you a good quote, I'm replacing panels right now and holding off on the bondo until I'm absolutely sure I have no other alternative. Then I'm probably having my neighbor paint it, or doing it myself

Good luck though, it won't be cheap!

Edit: also depends largely upon where you're going to be getting the work done, custom shops = $$$.

Car is faded Rio Red. Getting repainted the same. I've stripped all the moldings, bumpers, etc. for the guy who's painting it. It has black bumpers. The roof is messed up so most of the body work is fixing the roof (dents). Zero rust. I have a zc hood that is white that is getting repainted. He's asking $2000. I had another guy tell me about the same. I paid $600 for the car with the 1.5L a few years ago.

For me it's cheaper to go OEM, although I'm told red is the most expensive color. It's cheaper because I'm not having the engine bay and door jambs painted. The guy who's painting it is going to let me drive it there, strip the bumpers and remove the rear glass, head/tail lights, etc. Plus hes painting my door handles. I did some of the body filling on the bumpers because they had some scapes and gashes. I basically did everything for him for prep, except sheetmetal repair/body fillers and dent removal. The roof looks like some had a party on it.

its always cheaper to paint with the factory color so you dont have to paint the jams and firewall as far as paint color white an black are the cheapest metalic colors are a little more and tri-stage are the most expensive. if your gonna do the paint ad body work your self pland on spending about 500-$700 just on materials
if you have a pro do it expect to spend $2000-$5000 depending on rust and or dents and color change.

I'm have a pro do it. He's my friends brother who is doing it on the side. $2k isn't bad given what he has to do.

Hotrod...I like that screen name!

If you wanted to spend the extra time getting all the sanding/filling/dent removal done yourself, I betcha you'd save a ton of $$$. That way the painter only has to paint it. And you'll feel so much more satisfied that you did most of the work yourself . You might want to check out Roman Auto body on Hwy 51 too, I've heard their prices are (usually) fair.

PS: You willing to part with that ZC hood? I've been looking for one for years.

The body is actually pretty good. I sanded/prefilled the bumpers myself. I'd probably do more harm than good on the rest of the body. The roof sheet metal has actually seperated from the support members, so the sheet metal is wavy. Most of the cost is to have him fix that. It was like that when I bought it, but the car is from Cali. so it's rust free.

I'm not selling the zc hood. I just got it this summer, and its in great shape. I had another place price out my car too, so I know this guy is not charging anymore than he has to.
