Default HF Mani w/ adapter plate. Support 300 HP?

I am planning on building a D16A6 (arias pistons, eagle rods, etc...) and boosting it next summer. My plans for the turbo setup itself was going to be pretty cheap, to leave room for management, guages, fuel, etc.

With the built block, it seems ashame if my shitty manifold wouldn't let me run 300 hp. I wouldn't think a regular log manifold would flow a whole lot better though.

Would the Std or HF mani w/ an adapter plate bolted to an Evo III Big 16g turbo be able to support 300 hp?

the runners are tiny. but in my opinion a ported hf is better than a log

Port the heck out of it and give it a shot. If your on a budget, might as well. A good exh. mani can make or break a boosted setup depending on how serious you want to get...

But would a cheap, $200 log be any better?

It just seems to me that the next step up from an HF mani takes alot more money.

it should give you a close ballpark with a ported HF manifold, just make sure the engine is tuned

If you want to spend any money on a manifold (if you already have an HF), get a mini-elf. There's two versions, one that is like a high-flow log (cheaper), one that merges all runners right at the turbo flange (better).

I would suspect the HF will take you to 300whp, but will take much more boost than a tubular mini-elf manifold.

The other solution is the 'elephant' manifolds people are doing now. They consist of a cheap 4-2-1 NA header (stock or aftermarket), an j/up pipe, then turbo mounted like a top mount. Fairly cheap, but definately flow better than anything for the money.

As for the 16g, I know a td05-16g (normal I think) flows 520cfm at 14.7psi, the larger version should be able to make 300whp on an A6 with the right tune, and maybe a delta cam. A y8 manifold wouldn't hurt either for $50-75.

If your car will be a daily driver, don't think that 'just' 300whp is a waste. You still have torque steer and traction to worry about.

oem/aftermarket header topmount/sidemount/whatever = your best bet IMO.

you will probably have a hard time hitting 300 HP on an HF manifold...splitime has one on his car, and it is 100% holding him back. TINY crappy runners.

we're going to be building a CRX (getting it down to my shop on thursday) for the grassroots motorsports 2007 challenge using an OEM header top-piece and a fabricated sidemount/topmount style..gotta see what fits with the radiator. should be fun.

alll you need to make sure of with a setup like that is that the turbo is 100% supported on its own, and it'll last.

Thanks for all the input! Does anyone have any links to these "elf" mani's? I tried bmcrace.com but they no longer make them. Google search proved useless.
