Default RINGS? or Headgasket!

okay so as everyone knows on here i blew out alot of smoke when downshifting in a race and almost got me too empty on oil LOL...!

Well anyways i was thinking about it and so i did a Compression test on my motor and here are the numbers, 180-177-180-180 almost 180 straight across? BUT if my rings were bad wouldnt my compression be low on certain cylinders? ALSO, i noticed that my coolant was VERY low after the race......and i looked around my motor and i could see oil coming out of the headgasket/head-Block, could my headgasket be causing me too burn off all the oil i did?

Who thinks i should change the headgasket and see what happens from there?

OR who thinks my rings are still fried? LMK you guys

If your compression is that low across all four cylinders and the motor is cool, then thats good. If the motor had been warmed up before you did the test, then you need to check something out.

What?^^^, are you trying too say that having a 180 Compression straight across is Bad? Think again and the car was warm when i did the compression test!

It is not neccassarily how high or low the numbers are, but how much they vary.

Please stop talking.....

When you downshifted did you over rev? Pop off the coolant cap and run the car and see if there are lots of bubbles that come out. Also you can do a carbon test on the coolant.

But sounds like your bottom end (compression wise) is good.

No, you can.

But it isnt the initial number that is very important. Its if its at the most +- 10 accross.

So if you have 160 150 155 165 its fine. But if you have 160 80 160 160 then you have bad compression in that cylinder and it could be 1 of about 5 things.

Correct information

As stated earlier, a leakdown test will give you additional information.

If you arent sure on how to go about doing this, searching will probably turn up ALOT of information for you.

Good luck man...and dont sweat it. **** like this happens to the best of us. You'll be all set soon.

should i try too replace the headgasket seeing that my compression is 180 straight across?

OR, put my other B16 in and put the headgasket on that condition is unknown on the B16 out of the car right now!/?

I'd do the leakdown before you put any money or time into it as your motor may be in better condition than you think, yanno? Its great that you have a "spare" B16 though. Since thats the case, I'd do the leakdown and if everything is in working order I'd drive the car until it goes.

In the meantime, I'd build the other B16 to whatever spec you are planning on and you'll have the peace of mind knowing that once it goes...you'll have a hell of a swap to immediately throw in.

Good luck with whatever you do though. And there's a few people, myself included, that are pretty interested in this thread and are very willing to help you out so make sure you post the results of the leakdown test so we can see whats going on here.
