Default '92 Civic CX starting problems...

Ok so im posting for my bud that just purschased a '92 Honda Civic HB CX. The previous owner said that the battery is BRAND new but has been sitting there for a while and he hasent ever started it for a long time. So today I go to see if I can start the car... When I turned the ignition I couldnt hear NADA. So we try to push start it. first time I start in 2nd gear, the car starts to bog and just feels like it doesnt want to start at all. So I try in 3rd. Same thing happens again so I give it 1 more try in reverse, and same **** happens...

Now we ask some guys passing by for a boost.. the car doesnt start right away so we just let it chill for a bit, finally it starts we let it run for 10-15mins and then turn it off. We try to restart it and same **** as last time

Now from what ive read it most likely isnt the starter... Its ethier the altenator or the battery...

What do you guys think?

Thanks in advance

Battery's probably dead as hell.

Not holding a charge 'n ****.

Though weather it be the alternator, battery, or starter motor pop-starting it should have started it - unless the battery power is so low it can't spark.

I would start with the battery, use a multi-meter to check the power.

I doubt it's the alternator, but it's possible.

Not the starter motor it if cranked fine on boost.

So what if he said the battery is BRAND new - I bought a battery from mercedes BRAND NEW when I was stuck at my g-ma's house down in Long Island with my benz. Put the thing in and it was dead as a bone. It cost $200. I took it back and told them, it was a defective battery.

Brand new doesn't mean **** except it has wrapping.

Check the battery.

EDIT:
PS: Also, once it's driving 'n all, take it to autozone or pep boys, they can test to see whether it's the battery or alternator for free I think.

And if you drive 10 miles to autozone and it still won't start when you shut it off then it's not charging - so it means the battery isn't holding a charge as if the alternator was bad the car would die due to lack of spark.

Also, if it was sitting for awhile the gas is probably stale, fill it up ASAP.

All right thanks for the tips

Hes getting an OEM honda battery tonight so we'll see if it starts...

Also someone said that because the connectors for the battery is loose it can be causing the car not to start? One of them is really loose that u can take it off by yanking on it and the other is tight as f**K...

well thanks for responding so quickly
