help! cant take out my front axels
can anybody tell me how to take my axels out. my friends arent helpin me with the swap and im startin to get frustrated. all i have left are the axels and then i can pull the motor out. please help.
take a big flathead screw driver and pry between the axle collar and the transmission to pop it out of the transmission..Taking it out of the disk should be self explantory
i got the big nut off holding my hub on and nothing happened. my hub wont break lose. can somebody just give me a step by step so i can make sure im doin it right.
Undo the suspension fork...Undo the lower control arm...Now the disk can pivot on the ball joint on the bottom...remove big spindel nut that secures the axle in the disk...Knock axle out of the suspension
wha ya mean? you pry the thing off the middle bolt and get the top end of it down from the frame of the car ...there is some free play in it enough to get it off the bolt
Big thick flathead screw drivers are your friend

not to hate, but if you dont know what a balljoint is ("the tapered bolt") I really dont think a motor swap is for you. However, best of luck on the project. If the axel doesnt want to slide out of the hub, spray it with some lube and tap it out with a hammer, dont hit it too hard, you dont want to expletive up the splines. you can only remove it from the tranny when it is free from the hub first. once its free from the hub, pry it out of the tranny.
One question though, if you dnt have to remove the trans to take the engine out, and if the tranny is staying put, so are the axels....

Taking the engine out with the transmission is much easier than trying to seperate the two and lift one out while leaving the other...especially when the one youre trying to remove is the bigger of the two

Yea, I've never heard of anybody taking out the engine and leaving the tranny in....I'll assure you its going to be much much harder to do. Trying to seperate the two (with the trans upper and side mount still attached) is going to be a real bitch. On top of that, the half shaft (ie half the axle) is attached to the engine as well.

wait a sec jack ***, first off, you asked for help. second, you didnt call it a balljoint, you called it "the tapered bolt". So, if you knew it was a balljoint, why would you not call it by its proper name? Also, enjoy replacing the balljoint when you ream it out with the pickel fork, why not just hit the lower control arm with a hammer and save it? Ignorance
