Hi. I have a 99 Honda Civic SE which I bought about a year ago and now has 134000km. I don't think the previous owner changed the tranny fluid at all and I want to change the fluid now. I'm not sure if I should do it because I heard that if you don't change it regularly then you might have problems with it if you decide to change it later on. Is this true? I have no problems with tranny accept in cold days it makes a click noise when I shift to 2nd gear. In the car manual it says to change tranny fluid at 144km in normal conditions. Anyone has any suggestions? Oh...also do you think I should go with the genuine Honda fluid or is there a particular brand that's better than Honda for my condition?

 

im a pretty big fan of the genuine Honda fluid..

 

just change it....i would go for the Honda fluid as well

if you need help on doing it yourself...heres a link on how to do it..
if you sroll down to the bottom of the page, it'll show you which is the drain plug....but to put the fluid back in, i usually remove the sensor on the tranny and do it from there....

use honda fluid, though i used 5w30 motor oil in mines and works okay. theres alot of debate on using reg. motor oil or honda fluid, but its your choice.

 

go ahead and change it with Honda MTF.

 

what about using one quart of gm synchromesh fm, and the rest of gm synchromesh

why??

 

i heard that synchrmesh fm was too thin, so it was better to half and half. But i keep reading mixed reviews. i think i'm gonna do 100% synchromesh fm.
