Honda Newbie, need help
Hey guys, im new here and pretty much new to imports, all though I know a little bit, In need to know a lot more.I got bit by the bug when i rode in a 96 integra gsr, so i decided i wanted my own. I just aquired a 89 civic si HB, with a 90 model B18A1. I got a few questions for you guys so here it goes.
1. I never got around to askin the guy i got it from, but i cant figure out if the tranny was from the integra too, or if it was the civic tranny, is there anyway to tell? Does the b18a1 bolt up to the civic tranny?
2.Goin into 5th gear it grinds everytime, i was told i needed to check the fluid level and add syncromesh to it to solve that problem.
3.WHen i get on it hard sometimes the front end starts shakin, so i crawled under it and found i could shake the right cv axle bake and forth a bit, which isnt suppose to have any give right? This goes back to question one, b/c i need to know if i need a cv axle for a 90 integra, or an 89 civic. Thanks guys, i hope im welcomed here.

1. B-series motors will only mate with B-series tranny's, D-series to D-series, etc. So odds are you have an integra trans, either usdm S1 or A1 trans. Y1 or Ys1 are usually jdm with the exception of the usdm 92 gsr Ys1 trans.
2. Check your oil level in the trans. I've seen alot of sloppy swaps done where the oil leaks out of the trans and is never replaced. Syncromesh will help a little if the syncros are on the way out, and check the clutch cable to make sure it's disengaging completely.
3. The axle shouldn't shake. Check the axle nut and make sure it's properly torqued down and that everything's tight. If the axle makes a clicking sound when making turns, I would suggest replacing it. Axles from a 90-93 Integra without abs will fit your car.
