CRX Si, B18B1 swap, Cranks, Doesn't run? Fireballs. =D
Well, I tried to crank over my CRX.
Kept failing to start. About my fifth try, my observer reported that the open headers kicked out about a two foot fireball. After that, I smelt raw fuel.
I did swap out the distributor, and was an idiot when I did that. I thought I set it to TDC, but i didn't know at that time that the B18 had a different TDC than a D-series.
Is there any way to check timing on a car that isn't running yet?
Any other glorious ideas? I'm going to double check for spark on all cylinders tomorrow.

I would try this first by turning the crank to TDC by looking at the line on the pulley and line it up to timing cover slot. Then look at the cam gear to make sure the gear mark up and evenly if it's good then remove the dist. cap to see if the rotor is pointing at the #1 spark plug which should be at 7:30 mark facing it from passanger's side fender looking straight at the dist. The way it sounds like the timing is off by 180 degree or less. Hope this helps

?
My distributor only goes in one way. The little drive on it is slightly offset so it will not physically fit inside 180 degrees off. I just took it off again tonight and observed the same.

The dist. only goes in one way no matter what so don't worry about the dist. unless it's fully flush with the head so make sure it's in the right way. Then check your firing order and timing set up on the timing belt. I'm pretty sure somewhere is off there.
to help you find tdc take a long extention and rest it down cylinder number one on the compression stroke(no valves should be open) and then check your cam gears timing with the belt off. once this is done your car should run and timing can be checked

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if the timing belt is off any, wouldn't there be bent valves due to an interference motor?
I bent the valves on my Si and when you try to start it, it just free spins. I was only going 35 mph through town and it all of a sudden died. Tried to pop the clutch while still moving to get it going again, nothing. So I tried to start it when I got to a stop. WZZZZZZZZZ! I knew my belt was gone right there. Only had the car for two weeks also.
