Default how important is having solid doors?

i put gutted doors on my crx.. really gutted. basically just the outside skin and a window which is permanantly up.. they close and open normally but they are real flimsy when they are open.. will this hurt the stability of the car or does it not matter?

On a street driven car I wouldn't gut the doors. On a track car I only would if I had a cage. If you get broadsided the you have no protection. I have a 12 point cage and still have factory doors. Just my .02. Larry

Then why did you make the post? lol..

Honestly, if you get hit hard , your going to die dude. Imagine this. Go to Home Depot, grab a peice of HVAC sheetmetal. Hold it up infront of you and stand in the middle of the highway..

Thats the equivelent of what situation your in now. If you get hit at a 25mph roll, your gonna get banged up pretty good man. Banged up as in, paralyzed..

I suggest you grab some new doors, because if you get hit, this post will be all thats left to remember...

No car worth your life/well being!

Grinder GUy is right. The thought of getting hit with no support is not a pretty sight.

I did the gutting out the door thing back in the late 90s too. I planned to just do that for the track and swapping out the doors for the street. I ended up having to drive the car around awhile with the cut doors then I realized what I was doing was stupid and ended up retiring the car from the street.

That thing was a deathtrap now that I think about it. Im lucky that nothing happened.

Might as well have driven without doors.

these guy are right, 10 extra lbs isn't worth dying over, i would do like that other guy said, get another set of doors and swap back and fourth between the track and the street.

that's foolish. get the stock doors on that car especially if it's daily driven. life is worth more than that !

I wouldn't run gutted doors on the street.

Also, I think even with a drag racing cage its still not safe on the street.
