Default Ls Vtec compression ratio limit on 93 pump

This will be my first Honda build among my previously owned vehicles. Money is my biggest factor, so I dont have the money for a GSR block with forged internals and turbo. I,m gonna keep it cheap but workable with an LS-Vtec B16a2 head and CTR pistons. I,ve looked at a lot of data online, and figured that the estimated compression ratio would be close to 12:1 since these pistons make 10.4:1 in th B16. Is this right? and if so, can I do this on 93 without detonation problems? If its gonna be a problem I'll probably just add another half a layer of gasket to bring it down, but if I can get away with it than I'll stay a 12:1.

Sorry but you are in the wrong here. This is an ITR forum. Quit blaming the man for wanting to keep this area on topic.

You have two factors in compression ratios. Dynamic and Static. People have run 13:1 on very big cams before such as Buddy Club Spec 5+ and have been able to run it on 93 pump with a good tune. One thing to remember, on high compression you generally will need to retard the timing so your engine does not ping.

I personally run a 12.5:1 compression ratio and it runs perfect on 93 octane with the timing being 16.5. I've been runing this CR for almost 3 years with no major problems (knocks on wood). It's all about the tune, don't cheap out on it.
