Remote starters are intended to only be used on automatic cars. You will need to defeat the clutch safety switch for the system to work. Then you need to get in the habit of always parking the car out of gear. If you leave it in gear and try to start the car it will move and you could hit something. Try explaining that one to your insurance agent

Most big shops wont install it because of liability issues but some regular shop can/will do it.

trust me, DO NOT INSTALL IT! if you really want remstart buy a compustar. I bought a standard car that had it, and within the first day i ended up starting it while in gear. Its not a pretty sight. I know a freind with a 99 si and he had one and left it in gear. You WILL forget and leave it in gear and it will be bad trust me. Compustar makes one for standard cars that is safe- if you want more info on it go into the audio, security section and FCM (i think thats his name) can explain it a little better- he realy knows his stuff.

Any shop will install the alarm for you. They can install every other feature except the remote start feature... So your alarm isn't a total waste as others have stated...

If you really wanted to, it's not hard to wire up a relay to defeat the clutch safety switch and to devise a neutral safety switch so that it won't start if its in gear...

its fine, i have a system with remstart. if you're used to leaving your car in gear, dont even mess with it..ur gonna forget and keep forgetting to leave it out of gear. on the other hand..if you ALWAYS leave ur car out of gear then u dont have to worry about a thing. my car has taken off ONCE with remote start only because my friend was in my car messing around..it doesnt even hit hard, there was no damage whatsoever done to my car or my roommates car, haha i guess it depends on what you hit.

but

to by-pass the clutch, theres 2 wires at the clutch pedal..all u have to do is tap those wires together, no cutting necessary. and ur ready to install.
