Default Help installing Alarm Remote Starter

Hi everyone, please be patient with me. I live in the middle of nowhere, Minot ND. We only have one place that installs car alarms. They told me the total to install a car alarm remote starter is $800. I told them I have the part and the necessary parts and they still say $600 for labor. I am experienced in electronics and all but never actually did a car alarm. I have 2 references ( http://www.acuraworld.com/forums/f72...e-start-87562/ ) and ( http://www.odyclub.com/forums/showth...ght=viper+5901 )I am looking at that seems pretty good but want to make sure I know what I am going to get myself into.

I have a 2008 Honda Odyssey EX-L with Nav. I bought the Viper 5901 and Canmax400 flash to firmware 400.HONDA4 1.00

Here are some images of what I got and more close up images if need.

By looking at reference 1, I can follow all steps until I reach XK01 install. That's where I need to use the Canmax400 also label XK-400X on the module. Using reference 2, I can get to the 7 pin below the steering wheel by removing all necessary panels. According to Canmax guide, I will use Installation type A. This image shows that I only need 4 wires from the 20pin on module to 7pin socket below the steering wheel. Please confirm if that should be the only wires.

It's kinda confusing following the steps from both references because it's not the exact installation I'm doing.

Please give me any help you can even if it takes awhile to get me the info I need. Another confusing part is the image of the kick panel, I am not sure what wires to use following the references. I looked around to see if I can find a labelled diagram but was unlucky.

Please advice. Thanks in advance.

Ok guys, I did it. Few extra connections was needed but everything works now. My main reason for doing this installation myself other than I like stuff like this, is now I know how to do it myself and program it to my liking.

Well, thanks for everything guys even if you thought about helping me.

Ddawkins2k, can you please provide a clearer image of the wiring instructions for the 2008 honda odyssey? I tried to zoom into the vehicle information, but can't read the print. Or if anyone has access to direct wire, i would greatly appreciate a readable copy for an 09 Odyssey.

I won't save much money but would love to install one for the experience. Thinking of Viper 5902 plus the Xpresskit DBALL, want sliding door on the remote screen.

FCM,

thanks for the useful information. I am getting closer, just have a question on the parking light if you or anyone else can help.

With the starter, there is an option to set the parking light output to positive or negative polarity, but according to that bulldog chart, there is both connections?
PARKING LIGHTS ( - ) RED/BLACK (-) @ WIPER SWITCH, (BLACK/WHITE,
12-Pin Plug) Pin 7
PARKING LIGHTS ( + ) RED/BLACK (+) in DRIVERS KICK PANEL, Harness
to Rear of Vehicle

Can the system be both? Or do i just set my starter to postive and attach it to the positive wire above?

The car has both, the neg.(-) is before the park light relay and the pos.(+) is after the relay, it makes no diff. which one you use, however if it was me, I would use the neg.(-), two reasons, first it is low current, [250mA or less] second it is a neg.(-), [can't short out]. 94

Or you can register with techservices.audiovox.com for wiring info.

On some cars it never hurts to have two sources of info as they can list two different places you can tag the same function, with one being easier than the other

Alrighty, i am comfortable and amped up to do this. Gonna place an order for the viper 5902, Xpresskit Dball, and Xloader2 tonight.
FCM, thanks for the tip on the neg route. If you would please also help with one more question, the viper has a dedicated wire for (-)200mA 2ND Status/Rear Defogger output. According to the notes, the wire is a black/yellow at passenger Kick Harness to Rear POS 8 MIN. Can i just hook up those wires, or do i need a relay?

You will need a relay, the 200mA ground is just enough to "energize" a relay. 94
