Are you sure that your low beams are not burnt out?

no, i'm not. i was not aware that there are different bulbs for dim/high beam. i replaced the bulbs about 6 months ago to halogen. what is the liklihood that they would be shot already? i tried replacing fuses, but had no luck. i'm trying to avoid spending alot of money on labor if there may be an easy fix i can do myself. how do i check if just my dims are burnt out? thanks!

The headlight bulbs are 2 ways - there are 2 filaments, one for the high beam and one for the low beam - if either goes, you have to replace the whole bulb to get it back. 6 months is not a long time for headlights to last, and it seems odd that both went out at the same time, though not impossible.

The headlights are very easy to burn out if you handled them improperly when putting them in - you should touching the glass of the headlights with your fingers - the oils from your fingers leave fingerprints which the light from the bulbs would then head up and blow out your bulb.

As far as easy/cheap fixes go, I would try replacing one of the headlights (less than $10.00), and see if that fixes it. If it does, then there is your solution (as long as it doesn't happen again soon).

I have no other suggestions for you though, I am sorry. Good luck.

if you replaced them yourself and u accidently touched the glass part of the bulb with your finger or go some debris on them, then its possible that they could go out that quickly

There is a recall on some 2001 and 2002 models where the light switch fails and you lose the low beams. Take the car to the dealer.
