Default How much power does a K&N air filter provide?

I keep hearing conflicting reports, and I don't know who to believe anymore...Some people say it doesn't provide any additional horsepower, just better throttle response. Some say 10 to 15 horsepower gains, while others are claiming as much as 125hp. I don't know who to believe. The engine in my 1991 Accord is a 2.2L F22A4 engine, but I don't know anything about its airflow or anything of that nature.

Since I don't know much about the other claims, I will laugh at the potential 125hp gain. Wow.. if that was true, everyone would have one..

Ok, Theres a complex way to figure out the HP of that intake

You take the 125HP and you subtract 122 From it, And theres how much horsepower it adds ; )

Now, Think for a second so people dont think your stupid, Why, Would they sell a intake that adds 125 hp, for $130 dollars?

Because if that was the case, instead of people buying turbos, cams, port and polishing heads, boring there blocks, etc... they would just get a k&n intake...

They dont Do anything besides an Un-noticable 4 or less horsepower, they do give a little better throttle response, but thats about the only thing youll notice, except your car being a little louder

Let me put it this way: If you gain any power from it, you won't notice it. At all. Ever.

It will add dirt to your engine faster than it will add HP, K&N filters have much suck at filtering.

Are you asking about a cold air intake, or a K&N replacement filter for the stock airbox?

From experience, K&N filters are worth the price. Does is give you more horsepower? I dont think so. But it does give you better throttle response. I've had 'em in my cars for more than a year, I'd prefer K&N over regular filters.

the oil coated variety kn has been tested and shown to allow more dirt thru into engine.
also if overoiled can contaminate maf esp. if they are more close together than normal.
why bother for a couple hp, when it can turn into a hazzle to maintain.

i prefer KN+stock box over sr or cai, one for price difference, two the power difference is maybe 0.5 hp, and third you can always swisscheese the bottom of stock air box, plus plastic does not conduct heat well.

Better than swiss-cheesing your air box is to take out the whole bottom half of it. On my CB7, I removed the bottom half completely and use screws, nuts, and washers to hold the filter up to the top half of the airbox.
