Default NEED TO KNOW IF MY B18C1 BLOCK CAN BE SLEEVED

i bought a spare block to start my first turbo built motor.(no more all motor)
i will be using Golden Eagle or Bensons sleeves(undecide)
I dont really know how to explain this but my question is that the stock #3 sleeve is crack and is about 4'' long. but the crack dosent go all the way down.
i talked to EARL(R.I.P) 3-4 weeks ago and he told me that they can weld the crack and sleeve the block.
Can you guys show any pictures of your stock crack sleeves and with new sleeves.

yeah u can resleeve it. i cracked my #3 cyl. blew out a chunk about the size of my thumb and the crack went another inch or so down from the missing piece.

it was another 125 bucks in welding to repair the area, aebs sleeves from z10

i think the better way would be to post a picture of your block and let people see what the problem exactly is so they can tell you for sure or not if your block can be sleeved. from what you are describing, it sounds like you can resleeve it.

i will post some pics tomorrow.
my block is not that bad!!!!
Im taking to benson and he is telling me (Most of time it can be fixed, but
> >anything lower then 4 inches can be a problem. It cracks the underbelly
of the block which the new sleeve sits on.)

What is the underbelly of the block? Im thiking is the outter side of the sleeve(aluminum side) where it conects to the block.
My crack stops about 1'' before reaching the underbelly

Sure you can get it fixed. Anything can be fixed.

But why start a turbo build with a questionable block. A serious turbo build cost alot. The block cost is a smal fraction of the total cost, so why take a shortcut and gamble it will hold up. Maybe it will, maybe it will not.

You can weld all day long, but welding aluminium casting is a real pain in the ***. This needs to be done by a pro and if he is serious about his work, the cylinders needs to be x-rayed so microscopic cracks can be found.

just my 2 cents
