Default B20 vs. H22

I am now considering either one or the other but don't know which one will give me the most for my money. Is one going to be much cheaper to swap into my 5g? They seem to cost about the same but why aren't H22's more popular then? Do they have a lot of problems? Thanks for any input.

B20 will be cheaper and easier no doubt. No one will argue this. On the other hand, Bang for buck on a 5G...I'd go H22. There are fabrication issues and you have to do alot more homework, but well worth it in my opinion. BTW, I have a B20 in a 4G and my brother will soon be H22 in a 5G...Sorry Nick, I had to tell him the truth. I mean umm, NO H22's SUCK, you can't even steer..cause like this friend of my cousins, saw this site where they said that they heard that H22 civics handle bad..like, so bad you can't even turn, y0!

I've had both in the same car. The B20 swap will be cheaper but the H22 setup is MUCH faster. As for handling, it handles actually pretty well (took it to Buttonwillow this weekend for some Road Racing... read my other post) so don't listen to people who say H22 Civics don't handle well on turns... I know, I took it out and tested it (along with other experienced drivers driving my car as well).

i have a question for you newman, I heard the motor hangs really low and also that you can't drop your car because of strain on the axles. are either of these true?

So Newman, you had the B20 turbo set up and you switched to a H22. How come? Any problems with you B20 turbo combo? What to look out for? What type of turbo and B20 mods did you have and could you tell me what the total costs were. I am deciding between the two and both seem excellent. I was "old4dr" but I can't seem to log in now. Thanks for all of your information.

It doesn't really hang low at all.... my headers do hang low, but then they are supposed to since they are a H22 4-1 race header (best header they make for a H22 motor.... big 3" collector) but that's my only ground clearance issue that I have to deal with. Before the header, everything was cool. No strain on the axles either, but then you have to be running the right axle combo (which I am - proven many times already) so mine have not broken nor come close to breaking well after 6 months of very hard driving/racing.

The turbo B20 setup was fun and very fast. Don't get me wrong, I miss my turbo B20 setup but the main reason why I got rid of it was because it just wasn't fun to have anymore.... everyone knew what I had (well, most didn't know it was a B20, but probably assumed it was some sort of B-series motor) and it wasn't fun to drive because I couldn't have any fun with it on anyone. So I decided to ditch it and get a H22... very nice sleeper, almost just as fast (not on the top end at high speeds though), and nobody expects what I have (at least not a H22... maybe a suped up B-series but they would never think H22). The turbo B20 ran great - no problems what so ever. I ran on a stock B20 motor with 12 lbs of boost daily for 3-4 months, and pulled a mid-high 11 sec run on slicks (all motor H22 only gets high-mid 12s right now). Expect to spend a good chunk of change for a turbo kit and B20 setup.... and a H22 setup costs about a good 1/2 - 2/3 of that price.

Interesting I am shopping around for the right header right now as we speak. What are you using now?? And where can I get more information about it..??

Newman what is your proven axle set-up? Where did you get your mounts?
