Default Saving EF's, one at a time

Some of you may have seen the 90 DX hatch im currently working on, if not, you can read up on it here:

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1754808

As if i didnt already have my hands full with that, i went and bought this today:

everybody loves primer !!!

Oh the humanity!!!:

ricers to the rescue:

Aside from the seat, the interior is pretty nice:

Im not going to sugarcoat it, the damage to the passenger quarter means this car will never be right again, it moved the whole panel up to the point that the pass. door takes a little effort to open (not too much, but more than it should).

It's an 88 CRX Si with ~215K on it, it may look like hell, but it runs like a dream. One of the previous owners installed the Z3 fenders, AEM intake, and some random 2.5" exhaust. All im going to say about the price is that i paid too much.

Before i can drive it, the car desperately needs new rear tires. After that i need to:

replace windshield
bleed/check brakes and repair as necessary
Do a basic tune-up
replace hood release cable (it takes 2 people to open the hood)
Install the new hatch struts that came with the car
check out front suspension (there's a feel/sound coming from there im not too fond of)

After that, i plan to make it look as presentable as i can. I want to replace the missing/broken moldings and tail lights. When spring rolls around, im going to attempt to paint it one normal color.

I'm tring to keep this on a fairly tight budget, we'll see how i do.

While the car will never be quite right again, it should make a fine daily driver and that's all im looking for. It's good to have a CRX again. Ill be updating as i work on it.

Just took it for it's first spirited drive. It pulls very well [ricer mode]It even chirps tires into second [/ricer mode].

The brakes on the other hand...well, ill bleed them tomorrow and go from there.

currently working on spongy brakes, bled them to no real avail. I think the master cylinder may be the culprit, what models/years can i pull an MC off of and it work fine with a stock brake setup.

Aside from that the car is a hoot to drive, runs awesome and drives straight.

replaced the hatch struts today. You dont realize how heavy that hatch is until you're using your back to support it while swapping struts...

So i have a bit of a problem.

When i bought the car the brake pedal travelled nearly to the floor, the brakes plain sucked.

Thinking the master cylinder was the culprit we replaced that and bled the brakes. They felt about the same afterwards so today we bled them again...VERY well, so all the fluid is clean and there is no air in the lines.

When the car is off the pedal feels nice and firm, as soon as you start it up though the pedal goes straight to the floor. If it's not air in the lines or the master cylinder, what could it be?

Cliffs:

No air in lines
Not master cylinder
pads are good
brakes still suck

thanks to Calmoc9 for all the help working on it.

Any ideas as to what it could be are appreciated.

thanks!

Jacques

check and see if your rear drums are adjusted properly, this is a common cause of a low but firm pedal

just the master cylinder. But all tests performed on the booster indicate it's in good working order.

thanks,

Jacques

No idea on the breaks, but mercy on your soul for buying a car with that rust hole. I started freaking when I saw quarter sized surface rust on mine..

new wheels/tires put on.

Interesting problem though. Sometimes when i drive the car somewhere and shut it off, it wont start back up immediately, the first try it'll idle real low then stall, then not start at all, it'll just crank its little heart out. If i try again 2-3 mins later everything is peachy. It runs fine the rest of the time and this problem doesnt happen every time.

Any ideas? Vapor lock? Main Relay? Kitten stuck in intake?
