I have a '01 V6, and THis is the mileage I keep getting when I tried to measure it. Recently had the tranny replaced under warranty, could it be bad, or is there something else I need to check? Got 74,000 on the clock.... Dealership is making excuses....
Is the engine tuned up? Tires properly inflated? Also, cold weather does affect fuel economy so expect your mileage to drop when you are driving around during the cold months.
that seems odd, i have an 00' v6 with 113,XXX on her, and crusing on the highway at 75 i get 28 MPG and in the city i get 20-22 depending on how i drive how long i let it warm up when its cold so on so on....im not sure if its the dealerships fault. but i would say something is different. Out of curiosity, what were you getting with your old tranny?

Well, replaced the Air filter as soon as I bought it back in early Sept. Havent done the Spark plugs yet cause it's dur at 100,000. Could the fuel injectors be fouled up? I will try disconnecting the battery and reconnecting to reset the 'puter.

oh, the old tranny was leaking fluid all over the place and I was probably getting worse mileage out of that... it was replaced under the recall, so I'm not even going to worry about it.

It's hard to say if there's a problem or not... It will really depend on driving habits, how your commute is, etc. Some people think they accelerate slowly enough to conserve gas, but sometimes it isn't really the case. I used to average 22mpg in my 4cyl, and I didn't think at the time that I was driving aggresive at all. Right now I average about 25mpg, all because I really do drive like a grandma now. And that's mostly city driving now, compared to mixed city/highway before. Go figure.
However, if you want to check some things, start with the O2 sensor (check it with a multimeter). Dirty/clogged fuel injectors can cause a problem, as well as old spark plug wires and plugs. It might be a good idea to go ahead and change the spark plugs even though you're only at 74,000 miles.

It's interesting that you mention the O2 sensor, but if it is bad, wouldn't it throw a code? I've also considered that earlier, what about the fuel pump?? How could I check that? is there any way it could be shooting out too much? Another guy at the Advance auto parts store suggested going with regular plugs instead of the platinums. I don't know if I'd do that though....

O2 sensors have a way of starting to go bad without triggering the CEL quite yet. It can cause the engine to run richer or leaner, but I've most often seen richer. The fuel pump wouldn't cause this problem... And as for the spark plugs, I would continue using the platinums. I change out copper plugs every 5,000 miles, because they're cheap. With platinums, I personally would change them every 50,000 miles, but there's plenty of people who would disagree with me on that.
