Default possibly going to the track....

i have an 01 gsr that is in immac condition.. And the engine has like 32k miles! i have never gone to the track and i can understand the wear of tires at the track. Is there anything i should be concerned about. I plan on taping off most of my front end for bouncing rocks but i have never driven my tegg hard, other than short little "spirited" runs around streets and sharp turns. IM curious if it does not sound like a smart idea to take it since its my daily driver and i am a poor college student. I just want to see the potential of my stock car, (intake, catback, stiff coilovers)
. Any advice would be appreciated !! (unless its off topic)

thanks in advance,

-Amir

to blow a healthy motor up, (stock) does it take alot of beating ??? i always heard b18c's are strong as hell and i understand every situation is different in terms of maintanence but does anyone have any personal experience, although "stop worrying about your car and run it" is pretty reassuring.. lol and at the track i do not mean the 1/4 mile track.. im talking about williow springs out here in CA. i think thats the closest one to 951 but you get my drift. im not into dragging im just trying to test my confident driving ability =]

I think your motor will be just fine. My first time on a track, my motor had 160,000 miles on it and I ran it hard, 5 times. As long as your motors healthy and you keep up with regular maintenance you'll be alright. If this is your first time going on a track, don't get your expectations too high thinking you'll run a 14 sec pass. My first time, I ran a 16.4 but kept going back for more working on my reaction time and what rpms worked best for take off.

I dont think its the motor you should worry about. Its very easy to loose control at the track. Alot of people, including myself, think that just because we THINK we are good on the street, we will be a natural at the track, WRONG!.

I almost put my car into the barrier on my 3rd lap because I didnt realise 1 simple and faily basic rule. Straight line braking. One thing I learned real quick is, NEVER break into the turns, you will 95% spin out. only do your braking before you enter the turn, and coast/smoothly accelerate out of the turn. take it easy, and dont be afraid to have an instructor ride with you for a few laps, they taught me lots go great things. My best advise, go out, take it easy for the first lil while, and have a good time. But most importantly, stay safe, and bring your car home in 1 piece.

Also, the pre-race checks are always good. Make sure your wheels are torqued down properly, check all fluid levels (bad time to find out your short a litre of oil) and check your tire pressure. The instructor told me, that generally, for factory tires, you should set them 5-8 PSI above what the door sticker recommends.

Have fun, and drive safe

Make sure you have plenty of pad material left, and also check your rotors. Also, flush your brake fluid before the event (ATE Super Blue would be nice).

If you could afford it i would bring an extra set pads and rotors. At minimum a set of front pads.

Also, don't forget about a helmet. Otherwise have fun.
