Default Turbo & Engine Questions

1997 Acura Integra LS
226,000 Miles
Smokes and Smells Funny

Start with the turbo questions.

Im in process of ordering all my parts, im doing the t3/t4 setup turbo will be set at 7psi.

Questions:
With mileage i have on it and the smoking problem should i be worried about the boost?
Yes it will be getting tuned and running with turbo timer.

Also im running with the sidemount intercooler any problems when any yall did this?

As for the engine should i be good for now with psi set at around 7 or lower, this turbo isnt one of those big boys just to get me learning with FI.

Now for the engine questions.

Replacing the head with a low mileage one on a old block, i heard this is a bad thing to do. Remember how mines smoking and smells like **** all the time when i drive.
So if i slap on a lower mileage head will this do damage to the block considering its "newer" then the block pistons and what not.

Thanks!

compression is good across the board

but i do have trouble with timming, i think i cant get it on there right. No matter where dizzy goes it still pings at higher rpms. Im new to bseries so the pointer on the casing on side of block is funky. It points to me and not to the belts. Also previous owner replaced one of the cam gears.. You think he messed it up somehow in that area?

Definitely fix the maintenance issues before you boost!

What were the alleged "good" compression numbers?

If your going to replace the head you might as well replace all your gaskets. You can find the kit at Auto Zone, Pep Boys wherever like $250. New belts and water pump, fuel filter the whole 9! Make sure that bad boy is running ACE before you add FI. Cuz thats a whole different animal. Attention to detail, no half assin', be patient so you get what you want and so that **** won't blow up on ya! Seen it a hundred times man. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Leakdown test will point in the direction of oil blow-by.

If your compression check was within tolerance, it's possibly your valve stem seal's.

Why purchase a used head with the same potential problems? Just replace the valve stem seals, they don't cost that much.

Valve stem seals are easy...and i've done them before...but not on hondas. Probably a positive seal right? Just make sure you mark a line through each pair of valves so they will seat EXACTLY how they were before...because if they don't seat properly, you'll be taking that head back, vavles ground, some replaced (maybe all) and re-seated. Takes me little over half an hour to put new seals on...if the head doesn't have multi-groove vavles. Usually the bottom ends on hondas last forever...a 1997 should be fine...
