Timing Belt Question
Whats up everyone. I have a LSVTEC and I am wondering what timing belt to use. I have a B16 oil pump and water pump on the engine. I have a GSR timing belt on it as well. The thing about the GSR belt is that when I turn it the normal rotating way (counter clockwise) its fine but if I turn clockwise it skips a tooth. I know why it is doing this, its because the belt has tension on one side. Now I have been told to use the GSR belt if using a VTEC water pump. This seems odd to me because when the motor was just an LS I could turn the engine either way and it wouldnt skip. Should I be worried about this and get a new timing belt? Or is there no need to worry since the engine doesn't rotate that way anyway? Thanks in advance for your advice.
The rule is if you run the B16/B18C water pump then you run the B18C timing belt. The Vtec water pumps have bigger spocket and turn slower per crank revolution.
You're right it shouldn't skip a tooth when turning either way.
Also, you shouldn't turn your motor clockwise (backwards) too often. The cams are directional.
