Default HELP!!! Car counds like dirtbike, running rich as hell, cant figure it out?!

Ok i finally got my swap running but its running like a dirtbike or a snowmobile, loud, shaky, it almost sounds like the exhaust is coming out the shortram intake its so loud...

The plugs were pitch black when i pulled them but compression was solid (180 across). what could it be?

Im thinking my cam timing may be off a tooth? what would that soundlike?

Check and make sure your spark plug wires are in the correct spot on the distributor.

Well okay start with the basics. You know you have enough fuel. Pull ALL your plugs and see if they are ALL black or just some? Sounds like its running off of 2 or 3 cylinders.

then its not a plug wire, plug, injector or fuel related.

Im assuming youre not throwing any codes?

What exactly is your setup? Internals? Fuel management? Ignition? ECU?

all stock- i got it running pretty well just the header is leaking like crazy at the head flange and where it meets my exhaust so it sounds like a racecar

are all bseriers bolt patterns the same for the header? like b16 b18 are interchangeable

Sounds like it might be off one tooth. Pull off the valve cover and check valve timing to be sure. once you are sure procede with other component trouble shooting.

It will run one tooth off on the cam gears, and it will sound just like he described. I had a friend who's car sat up for 6 weeks because he couldn't figure out why it ran like crap and sounded loud. First thing I checked was his cam timing, it was off two teeth on the exhaust cam and one on the intake cam but still ran. I set it right and back to running perfect. Make sure the cams and crank are in proper alignment.

ok yeah i think both cam gears are off like 3 teeth in the same direction...

i may have been reading the crank wrong

does the LS crank have more than 1 white mark?? I see one white mark before the 3 red, and one after... but using the "socket extension in teh #1 cylinder" trick i determined the correct white mark to be the one AFTER the red marks.

I currently have it timed to read the one BEFORE the 3 red marks

FIXED!

redid the cam timing, and valve lash after that. Fired it up and ran a lil rough the first fews minutes, it kept starting and reving up and dying, finally i got it to stay idling on the 3rd start and kept it alive by giving it throttle from the bay, after about a min of that it leveled out.

SOUNDS MEAAANN waiting for my new alternator then ima take this for a drive

thanks all

Fix that exhaust leak....b16 headders are not tall enough to fit b18, I believe there is a slight difference between the LS and the GSRs.
