Default car is misfiring...help please!!!

okay, the other day, my car started to misfire a lot...at least thats what i think it is...right around 2500 rpm, the car starts sputtering. i pulled the plugs and cylinder 1 and 4 were really black (rich), 2 and 3 were perfect...i switched over to some bkr7e plugs and i am getting the same problem...i havent checked my dist. timing yet, but could the timing affect this? the sputtering is pretty bad, but the sputtering kinda goes away at higher rpm. what could this be? and what should i check?

If its always 1 and 4 fouling, sounds like you have a spark problem. check the cap, rotor, and plug wires.
