Why is my rpm needle jumping around like crazy?

Default Why is my rpm needle jumping around like crazy?

i have a gsr and it is actually stock right now...even wen it was turboed i had the same problem. Once in a while the rpm needle will be off and will jump around like a guitar tuner...wat can be wrong? any help will be much appreciated. thanks

Did the car bog or engine cut out at all when it was jumping or was it just jumping around while the car seamed fine?

Have you touched the Ecu? I had the same problem and it was a ground to my Ecu.

the ecu has been tapped to a vafc but the vafc is set at 0

Not sure about this, but maybe clean your IACV. Caused my friends LS to sometimes jump during idle.

try removing the vfc and see if the tach stabilzes.

But looks like distibutor/ignition issues.
