Dist. Rotor screw issue
For the life of me I can't get this stupid screw off of my distributor rotor. I've stripped it a little but I can still get some pressure on it before it slips.
Would purchasing an impact driver help at all? This ****** is on hard.
Any other choices? I dont have that many mechanics tools..

That can really ruin yer day! An impact driver might be the answer. I've also used a small chisel on the edge of the screw head to get them started loose.
Vice grips wont work because there is that piece of crap plastic that covers the rotor partially.
Also I tried hitting it a bit to see if I could bust it loose and no luck. I think I'll try the chisel and if not buy an impact driver

I've found that it helps to use vise grips after destroying the rotor. It gives me more room to work with the screw.. As for using an impact driver, uhh, sounds like a bad idea. When in doubt, I toss my crappy craftsman screwdriver and get my Snap On one.. Always does the trick because I have all sorts of sizes.. Just remember to push down onto the screw when turning it.

the other poster is right a snap-on screwdriver is the way to go .. you cant beat them ... but a impact driver is how i usually remove them at the shop... it wont damage anything by using it ... they are cheap so just go pick one up ..

poooooobably one of the bigger design flaws ive come accrost for honda haha.... the most frustrating one anyhow... i dont know why they just dont use a slmall hex head bolt or even an allan type head for those screws... if nothing else works and you strip the hell out of it you might even try and easyout...

I had this EXACT same problem when I went to replace my distributer. No screwdriver would fit the screw head properly until I tried my Klein Tools 10-1 screwdriver. I really think that this screwdriver was the reason I was able to get it off. If you don't own one, they are a fantastic tool to have (10 screwdrivers in one handle). Every electrician I've ever met carries at least one...
Also try PB-Blaster. That stuff will break anything loose short of a virgin.

i was planning on using an impact driver but the thought of putting that much force onto the dist. didnt sound like a good idea to me. if you do give the screw out drill bits a go just remember to folow the directions and drill VERY slow. i drilled a little too fast and broke the bit right after it broke the screw loose. and if your able to find the thread pitch, length, and diamter of the screw then go to a hardware store to buy it because its like almost 2 bucks at honda for that little tiny screw

Had the same problem- corrosion. I chucked a phillips head (one that fit the screw tight) into my 18V cordless, set the motor at the lowest possible speed, and the screw backed right out. After getting it out, clean up the thread chase and replace the set-screw. Wrenchy
man, That impact driver was amazing. That piece of crap screw came right out even when stipped and the driver didn't slip at all. I'm in love.. actually just really enthusiastic that I got that damn screw loose...
