Well, I'm trying to replace my rotor and cap. At first I had problems getting the screw out, so I just broke off the rotor and used vise grips to unscrew the retaining screw.

When I tried to pull of the metal ring from the rotor, it didn't budge, even with the retaining screw off. Now it's just dead stuck on the shaft. I tried and tried and nothing worked. Any ideas on how I can get it off? I don't want to have to buy a new distributor.

I've had that problem before. I used a flat head screwdriver to pry it off from side to side. Good Luck

Get a flathead screwdriver and hammer and lightly tap it towards the engine just to break it free, then pull it off with pliers/vicegrips, that's what worked for me....It's probably rusted on....

yah got to like "teeter totter" it back and forth, it will eventually come off...

Well, I finally pried that son-of-a-b`tch off today after removing nearly all the parts in the distributor to make sure I didn't accidently break anything important.

I tried to pry it with a flathead, but it felt like it was going to snap in half so I pried it with needle-nose Vise Grips and a breaker bar (jack bar) and it finally came off. I don't think it was ever changed before (had 94k miles) b/c that thing was stuck on there pretty good.

damn i am having the same problem....i tried to cut it in half with a dremol too....i'll try to hammer it towards the base of the distributor......mother F*&^ is rusted on and i totaly dissassembled the distributor...everything is unbolted...
