Open header....car cuts off...wont start???
ok short story...Last night I was fabing up my downpipe in my storage unit which is 1 1/2mile away and decided to call it quits after 4-5 hrs. It was cold and I wanted to go home and eat. put everything back together except my cat to header. Drove home with open header...kool sound right.
this morning I was going back to my storage unit to reattach my cat to header and my car died on my WTF!!!!! coasted over to a parking look and trouble shooted everything. Noticed that 1 of the 3 DC Header bolts where gone. Looked at all the spark plugs and they where pretty black. Cleaned them with a wizzer, sprayed them down with carb, brake cleaner and put them back in. While the plugs where out I rotated the crank to see if anything was binding and everything seemed good.
heres my problem....the car starts but wont stay running. It will start and idle at about 1 grand for 2-3 seconds tops and shut off. Then you have the cycle of the poping and backfiring and then it cranks again. I was ******* with it for about a 1 1/2 and still nothing.
Does anyone have any ideas. I know it could be:
1)bent valve
2)something electrical
3)I dont know
I have a obd0 b16 with DC headers, intake and stock exhaust. Also have gsr cams. I chipped it with BRE but everything has been straight since everything was installed.
When I drove it the only thing that I may have done wrong was not let it warm up b/c I didnt want to work on a hot exhaust. But that was it.
any comments. Anything said would be greatly appreciated. I would hate to remove the head if I didnt have to but want that to be the last resort.
Thanx

it was see you breath cold and I didnt let the car warm up but I thought the same thing. The exhaust is still disconnected. Im going to grab my jack after work and re-attacheh the exhaust and try it then. But this morning it started 1st try.
we will see I guess.

re-attached the exhaust and still nothing. I got it running for like 20 seconds and all I heard was bbbllllddllllllll....Got to be a valve. Im taking the head off tonight.
Check that your cam timing didn't jump. MFR priming the pump? Coil failure? What makes you think its a valve? What does bbbllldddllllll sound like?

the screw for the rotor button came out. lol.
thanx everyone. The plugs where fouled out, I was getting air so I dug into the ignition system and found it. I did a compression test and everything was good.
