Default header issue

I took the risk. I ordered the megan 4-2-1 header despite hearing mixed reviews. Well to make a long story short it didnt bolt up properly at the cat.

header============\/===========cat

I've emailed them and have gotten responses and hopefully will exhange for a new one.

Man, that's awful close, did you try messing around with it? un hooking the cat and getting the bolts started etc? I also considered the Megan but decided to pony up $300 for the Edelbrock. The welds and flanges look pretty good on that thing for the $150 they charge.

Oh I know the quality seems great. Just the fitment is a little off. I know it may seem close, but the amount of exhaust that leaks is a concern. Yeah i messed around for about 6 hours under the car with a friend lol. I may try again later.

i had the same issue with my megan header also, i had to un-do the exhaust hangers, bolt the exhaust up, and then bend some of the stock hangers to make them fit.

Are you using the graphite donut gasket? It doesn't look like there's one installed, and that would certainly be the cause of the leak. The fitment looks fine.

Believe me the fitment is off. Even with the gasket that was on there it leaked. Then it split down the middle for some reason and I put it back on for pictures with one half of the gasket. The gap at the top of the flange has a gap of at least a quarter of an inch.

It looks like the gasket in the photo is just a thin high-temp gasket, not the proper graphite donut gasket that should be installed on it. A 1/4 is perfectly acceptable, and indeed you want some space between the header flange and the cat flange to allow for flexing with the springs.

SERIOUSLY?? B4 you jump someones **** you might want the whole story.......
Looks to me like the incorrect gasket is being used. That gap is perfectly acceptable.....if you use the correct gasket. See the springs that are on the bolts allow for movement/evpansion. with on tension from the "doughnut" its gonna leak. Look at what you took off and compare it to whats on there you'l see the difference.

I bought the donut gasket yesterday at advance. Everything fits fine now. I am very satisfied. Thanks for the info!
