Alright i've been having oil consuming issues for a long time now. First with my old block it was old and tired and never had that great of a compression. Probably about 20psi low in 1 or 2 cylinders. I would notice that it burned probably a little less than half a quart a week. It didn't smoke much..maybe a little bit top end, but on startup there would be a nice little puff every once and a while. Not everytime, but sometimes. Also my turbo has always put a little bit of oil in the charge pipes.

Now...i have a fresher block in the car. It has about 100k on it and from day one it has had perfect compression. About 195-200 straight across stock z6. I even checked it again today and it was good. It has also continued to burn oil in the same fashion as the last block from day one which leads me to believe that my valve seals or turbo are the cause of my oil loss. I've always heard smoke on startup is normally valve seals.

 

have you checked the charge pipes and downpipe for oil residue?

Yes there is oil in the chargepipes. I know before when i pulled my intercooler off it had a bunch of oil in it. As for the downpipe i dont think it has oil in it. The turbine wheel on the turbo isn't black like its got real bad seals.

 

Start by fixing the turbocharger then. Unless you have some kind of odd pcv system, then oil from the engine wont find its way into the charge pipes, thats blowing out of the seal on the compressor side.

Haha yea i know. PCV off the black box in the back just runs open atmosphere with no check valve and the valvecover also vents into the atmosphere. I think i'll start with the valveseals just because those will be easiest for me to replace at this point, but if that doesn't work i may be able to pick up another vf39 from my subaru friend. Sucks because i picked up this vf39 for only $50!

 

you think valve seals are easier to replace than a turbocharger?

 

Check to see if there is oil in the exhaust ports, this is the biggest giveaway.

lmao! My downpipe and manifold have gay subaru flanges on them so thats what i gotta use right now unless i want to get them replaced.
